About Meygal Rock

The Meygal Rock Festival was a festival of rock, chanson, folk, and discovery music organized in Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, at the foot of the volcanic Meygal massif, in Haute-Loire. Supported by the Association Festival du Meygal, a collective of music enthusiasts founded around 2014, the festival offered an eclectic and friendly program in an exceptional mountainous natural setting, between volcanoes and forests of Auvergne. The last publicly documented edition (2nd edition) was held on August 26 and 27, 2016; the festival no longer seems to be held since then.

Meygal Rock Festival: rock in the heart of the volcanoes

Supported by the Association Festival du Meygal, a collective of friends passionate about music formed around 2014, the Meygal Rock Festival was established in Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, a village nestled at the foot of the Meygal massif, in a spectacular setting of volcanoes and forests in Haute-Loire. The event aimed to create a quality musical gathering in this rural territory of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

A program of rock, chanson, and discoveries

The Meygal Rock Festival stood out for its eclectic program mixing rock, chanson, folk, and contemporary music. During its 2nd edition, on August 26 and 27, 2016, at the associative and cultural space, the festival welcomed on stage Giédré, Odlatsa, Douce-Amère, Batlik, Baptiste W. Hamon, and La Petite Semaine, offering a showcase for both emerging talents and established acts.

An exceptional mountainous natural setting

One of the festival's major assets was its natural setting. Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, a village of character developed around a priory founded in the 11th century, is dominated by the volcanic peaks of Meygal, culminating at 1,436 meters. The festival took place outdoors and at the associative and cultural space, offering festival-goers an experience where music blended with the landscapes of the Auvergne volcanoes. The pure mountain air and the warm atmosphere of a mountain village created a unique ambiance.

An alternative and friendly spirit

True to the spirit of independent festivals, the Meygal Rock Festival focused on conviviality, proximity between artists and audience, and affordable prices. The event was run by volunteers from the Association Festival du Meygal, which gave it an authenticity appreciated by festival-goers. The on-site refreshment stand and catering, with local products from Haute-Loire, completed the experience in a spirit of sharing. The festival no longer seems to be held today; if a new edition were to be organized, it would be announced by the association on its Facebook page.
