The micro-publishing festival in Lille
The Microscopies Festival is a unique event in Lille's cultural landscape, entirely dedicated to micro-publishing: this independent, artisanal publishing, done by hand and in small quantities (around 100 copies maximum). Fanzines, artist's books, prints, screen-printed posters, illustrated notebooks, and experimental publications find their showcase here.
The micro-publishing fair is the core of the festival. Dozens of independent publishers, authors, and illustrators from all over France and Europe exhibit and sell their creations. It's a prime meeting place between creators and the public, where you can browse, discover, and acquire publications that are unavailable elsewhere. Accessible prices and the diversity of offerings make it a space for discovery for all the curious.
Around the fair, Microscopies offers a rich and varied program: creative workshops (bookbinding, printmaking, stamps, screen printing, risograph), illustrated concerts mixing live music and live drawing, readings, performances, screenings, and study days dedicated to the challenges of independent publishing. These events are offered with free or pay-what-you-want admission, in a spirit of sharing and accessibility.
The association Les Piñatas, behind the festival, continues to organize events related to micro-publishing throughout the year in various venues in Lille and beyond. The festival is part of a European network of fairs and festivals dedicated to alternative publishing, contributing to the influence of the Lille scene.
Microscopies cultivates a friendly and participatory spirit, reflecting the publications it champions. Each edition is an opportunity for authentic encounters between creators and visitors, in a warm atmosphere accessible to all audiences, from novices to seasoned enthusiasts.
The Microscopies Festival will be back in Lille for a new edition. Program, dates, and locations to be announced on the website of the association Les Piñatas.
The festival takes place in various locations in the Lille metropolitan area: Lille-Moulins, Auberge de Jeunesse HI Lille, galleries, artist studios, and partner cultural spaces. The micro-publishing fair is generally held in a single venue, while satellite events (workshops, illustrated concerts, performances) take place in various spaces in the Moulins district and beyond.
