Free concerts throughout the city on June 21, 2026
Every June 21, Besançon celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): bands, amateur musicians, music schools, and local businesses bring the streets, squares, and historic center to life with free performances. Organized by the City of Besançon, the day is entirely free and open to all musical practices.
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the Comtoise capital into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces, from the afternoon until the heart of the night, in all genres and for all audiences.
The Besançon edition is designed as a major participatory event: the City invites bands, musicians, and businesses to perform or organize concerts, particularly in the city center. Amateur open stages, brass bands, choirs, music school ensembles, and professional groups coexist without hierarchy, along the streets and squares of the preserved sector classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
