A Musical Setting in the Petite Montagne
Nestled in the heart of the Petite Montagne du Jura, about a hundred kilometers from Geneva, the Musique au Paradis festival takes its name from Rue du Paradis in Arinthod, where the Ferme de Vogna, the main venue for this musical event, is located. In this 17th-century farmhouse and the magnificent surrounding Romanesque churches, musicians from around the world share their art with a passionate audience.
Guitar at the Heart of the Project
Founded around classical guitar, the festival has successfully broadened its program while keeping this instrument as a common thread. The concerts feature:
- Classical Guitar Recitals: International virtuosos perform major works from the guitar repertoire, from Fernando Sor to Leo Brouwer.
- Chamber Music: String quartets, ensembles with guitar, dialogues between classical instruments in the exceptional acoustics of Romanesque churches.
- Brazilian Music: The festival regularly features Brazilian guitar, with artists like Paulo Bellinati and Cristina Azuma.
- Jazz and Improvised Music: On Sunday lunchtime, an open-air jazz concert in the gardens of Ferme de Vogna creates a relaxed and festive atmosphere.
Historic Venues
Concerts take place in remarkable heritage sites in the Petite Montagne:
- Ferme de Vogna: This 17th-century farmhouse in Arinthod, with its gardens and bucolic setting, hosts concerts, musical picnics, and moments of conviviality.
- Romanesque Church of Saint-Hymetière-sur-Valouse: A jewel of Jura Romanesque art, it offers ideal acoustics for chamber music.
- Church of Chambéria: Another heritage site where the festival's concerts resonate.
A Spirit of Sharing
What sets Musique au Paradis apart is the intimate and friendly atmosphere that prevails throughout the weekend. The limited number of seats, the proximity to the artists, the picnics in the gardens of Ferme de Vogna, and the informal exchanges between musicians and the audience create a unique moment of sharing, far from the hustle and bustle of large festivals.
