Classical music in the heart of the Écrins National Park
The Musiques en Écrins festival was born in 1994, founded by a group of passionate musicians and music lovers eager to bring classical music to life in the Pays des Écrins. Organized by the association Musiques en Écrins, the festival has become over the years an unmissable event for classical music in the Hautes-Alpes, offering a varied and demanding program each summer in a spectacular natural setting.
The festival's concerts take place in several remarkable venues in the Pays des Écrins. The Saint-Étienne Church of Vallouise, with its 15th-century frescoes, is the festival's emblematic venue. The churches of Puy-Saint-Vincent, Pelvoux, Les Vigneaux, and L'Argentière-la-Bessée also host concerts. In 2025, the new Salle Panoramic in Puy-Saint-Vincent joined the concert venues, offering an exceptional view of the surrounding mountains.
The artistic philosophy of Musiques en Écrins is based on musical quality, diversity of repertoires, and accessibility to the greatest number. The program features chamber music, piano recitals, vocal ensembles, and instrumental ensembles. The 2025 edition notably hosted the Gesualdo Six, a British vocal ensemble directed by Owain Park, for a program dedicated to Josquin's legacy, as well as the pianist Nicolas Mallarte in recital.
The festival actively contributes to the cultural influence of the Pays des Écrins and the municipality of Vallouise-Pelvoux. By offering a high-level musical program in a rural mountain area, Musiques en Écrins contributes to the tourist and cultural attractiveness of the valley, attracting music lovers from all over France and Europe each summer to combine hiking and classical music.
The 2026 edition of the Musiques en Ecrins festival takes place from August 3 to 13, 2026 in Vallouise-Pelvoux and in the Pays des Ecrins (Hautes-Alpes).
