Fifty years of musical métissage

Musiques Métisses was born in 1976 on the initiative of Christian Mousset, who wanted to create an event in Angoulême dedicated to jazz and improvised music. First named "Jazz en France", the festival became "Jazz et Musiques Métisses" in 1986 before becoming "Musiques Métisses" in 1990, reflecting its growing openness to world music. In 2026, the festival will celebrate its 50th edition, half a century of musical discoveries and dialogue between cultures.

An eclectic and engaged program

The Musiques Métisses program brings together artists from the global scene, from jazz to traditional music, including electro and hip-hop. The festival is not limited to concerts: it also offers literary encounters, shows for young audiences, film screenings, exhibitions, and various participatory activities. This multidisciplinary approach makes it a true meeting place for arts and ideas.

A festival rooted in its territory

Located in the heart of Angoulême, Musiques Métisses has established itself as one of the most important world music festivals in France. The Association Musiques Métisses, based at 6 rue du Point du Jour in Angoulême, works throughout the year to promote cultural and musical diversity. The festival benefits from the support of the City of Angoulême, the Department of Charente, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, and the Ministry of Culture.
