A collective of artists in the heart of the Sionaise countryside
The Need'Art festival was born on June 21, 2022, from the initiative of four artist friends united by a common passion: the dissemination and promotion of art in all its forms. Located at Villeneuve in Sion-les-Mines, a small rural commune in Loire-Atlantique situated between Nantes and Rennes, the Need'Art association carries an ambitious cultural project in a region where artistic offerings remain scarce. Sewing, dance, photography, and music are the founding disciplines of the collective, but the festival is widely open to all forms of artistic expression.
A multidisciplinary and family-friendly festival
The Need'Art festival is distinguished by its eclectic and multidisciplinary programming, mixing performing arts, music, visual arts, and crafts. Over its editions, the event has built a strong identity around several pillars:
- Street and circus performances: juggling, trapeze dance, fire shows, clown theater, and acrobatic performances animate the festival grounds
- Concerts and cabaret: artists of world music, French chanson, rock, and other styles perform on stage from morning to evening
- Exhibitions and visual arts: painting, photography, video, and installations are presented throughout the event
- Creative workshops: participatory workshops allow the public to discover various artistic practices
- Creators' and producers' market: local artisans and regional producers offer their creations and products in a friendly market
- Wooden games and activities: a carousel, giant wooden games, and children's activities make the festival a prime family event
Co&Sion: the recurring event
In addition to the summer festival, the Need'Art association organizes the "Co&Sion" days, a recurring event format that brings together local stakeholders around performances, concerts, exhibitions, games, workshops, and markets. Since the first edition in November 2022, these friendly gatherings have built a loyal family audience, united around values of sharing and proximity in the green setting of the Sionaise countryside. The third edition, Co&Sion #3, held in October 2024, notably featured La Krakoche (Cie Mécanique Folie), Steeve (Rock'n Circus, Cie Les Barjes), Virginie Gerbeau (trapeze dance), Joe & Joe (clown theater, Cie Les Barjes), and Les Sales Gosses (cabaret chanson concert), as well as an open-air cinema screening.
A commitment to art in rural areas
Need'Art embodies a commitment to cultural democratization in rural areas. By establishing an art and music festival in a commune of less than 2,000 inhabitants, the collective works to make culture accessible to all, far from major urban centers. The festival offers affordable prices, with free admission or reduced prices for those under 16, and promotes a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Local catering, food trucks, and a refreshment stand complete the offerings, making each edition a moment of conviviality and artistic discovery in the heart of the Nantes countryside.
