Rennes' summer contemporary art event
Exporama is Rennes' summer contemporary art event, organised by the City of Rennes and Rennes Métropole with the support of the Brittany Region. Each summer, around twenty cultural players from Rennes present about twenty artistic proposals — painting, photography, installations, street art, participatory exhibitions — spread across major cultural venues (Musée des beaux-arts, Frac Bretagne, La Criée, Les Champs Libres, 40mcube, former Jacques-Cartier prison…) and in public spaces. The vast majority of proposals are free or at a reduced price, and several thematic routes allow visitors to create their own artistic itinerary through the city.
Launched in 2021 by the City of Rennes and Rennes Métropole, Exporama has become in a few years the major summer event dedicated to contemporary art in the Breton capital. The festival is part of the «This Summer in Rennes» program and benefits from the support of the Brittany Region and the Ministry of Culture.
Each edition brings together about twenty cultural players from Rennes — museums, art centers, galleries, FRAC, independent venues — who offer exhibitions, ephemeral outdoor works, guided tours, and thematic routes. The mediums are varied: painting, photography, video, textile, installations, participatory creations, street art.
Exporama is notably deployed at the Musée des beaux-arts de Rennes (Quai Émile-Zola and Maurepas), Frac Bretagne, La Criée contemporary art center, Les Champs Libres, the former Jacques-Cartier prison, 40mcube, Lendroit éditions, PHAKT – Centre Culturel Colombier, the Orangerie du Thabor, Ateliers du Vent, as well as in several galleries (Oniris, Jonathan Roze, Tami, Upstairs, L'Antre temps, Net Plus).
The vast majority of proposals are freely accessible. The few paid venues (Musée des beaux-arts, Frac Bretagne) apply an enhanced accessibility policy: free for those under 26, beneficiaries of the Sortir! card, beneficiaries of minimum social benefits, and people with disabilities.
The 2024 edition notably featured a graffiti retrospective at the Musée des beaux-arts and photographs by Raymond Depardon. The 2025 edition hosted the Pinault Collection at the Couvent des Jacobins with the exhibition «Eye Contact: Portraits from the Pinault Collection». For 2026, the 6th edition focuses on a Roger Edgar Gillet retrospective, the 40th anniversary of La Criée, and an exceptional photographic exhibition at Les Champs Libres around the theme of the sea.
6th edition of Exporama from June 18 to September 20, 2026 in Rennes: about twenty contemporary art proposals — painting, photography, installations, street art, participatory exhibitions — deployed in major cultural venues and public spaces, with a Roger Edgar Gillet retrospective at the Musée des beaux-arts, the 40th anniversary of La Criée, and an exceptional photographic exhibition at Les Champs Libres on the theme of the sea.
From June 18 to September 20, 2026, Rennes transforms into a vast, open, lively, and widely accessible contemporary art trail. The 6th edition of Exporama brings together about twenty cultural actors from Rennes who deploy around twenty artistic proposals throughout the city: painting, photography, textile, digital forms, street art, participatory installations, and ephemeral outdoor works.
Exporama 2026 invests the Musée des beaux-arts, the Frac Bretagne, La Criée, Les Champs Libres, the former Jacques-Cartier prison, the 40mcube, Lendroit éditions, l'Église, Basalt: sons et curiosités, PHAKT – Centre Culturel Colombier, l'Orangerie du Thabor, les Ateliers du Vent, as well as several galleries (Oniris, Jonathan Roze, Tami, Upstairs, L'Antre temps, Net Plus) and numerous outdoor spaces.
The 2026 edition offers thematic itineraries — pastoral, technological, unusual, Breton — allowing everyone to create their own path. Particular attention is paid to young audiences, people far from culture, and people with disabilities. The vast majority of exhibitions are free; the two paid venues (Musée des beaux-arts, Frac Bretagne) apply an extended free admission policy for priority audiences.
