Summer open-air concerts at the Citadelle of Besançon
Panorama Sonore is an open-air concert festival that takes over the Citadelle of Besançon every summer, a masterpiece by Vauban and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Created in 2022, this event offers three evenings of concerts in the natural amphitheater of Parc Saint-Étienne, providing a spectacular setting with panoramic views of the city.
The Citadelle of Besançon, perched 100 meters above the Doubs river, offers an incomparable natural and heritage backdrop for summer concerts. The open-air amphitheater of Parc Saint-Étienne allows spectators to enjoy an intimate and friendly atmosphere, nestled between historic ramparts and nature.
Organizers recommend that attendees bring cushions and blankets to comfortably enjoy the concerts while sitting on the grass of the natural amphitheater.
The Panorama Sonore program features artists from various backgrounds and musical genres:
The 2024 edition, the third of its kind, took place from July 11 to 13 with an all-electro evening (Mula du Boom Tchak Tour), a blues/rock evening (Delgres, Dead Chic, Gliz), and a Saturday night with Jeanne Added solo, Mathis Akengin, and Kid Francescoli.
The fourth edition, from July 10 to 12, 2025, will feature "Madame Ose Bashung", an electro-rock cabaret revisiting the repertoire of Alain Bashung, Dominique A in a trio, and David Krakauer, a virtuoso clarinetist reinventing klezmer music with influences from funk, jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music.
Panorama Sonore returns on Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10, 2026 to the Saint-Étienne park of the Citadelle de Besançon. Two evenings of open-air concerts, with a breathtaking view of the city and an eclectic program featuring electro, rock, and live performances: Thylacine, Étienne de Crécy, The Limiñanas, Meule, Bysshe, and Fin de Service.
For this new edition, the Panorama Sonore festival takes over the Saint-Étienne park of the Citadelle de Besançon on July 9 and 10, 2026. Two unique evenings in the heart of the park, with an exceptional panorama of Besançon and an eclectic program mixing electro, rock, and live performances.
Doors open at 7:30 PM and concerts begin at 8:30 PM. The festival takes place outdoors; a refreshment stand is available on site and the event remains subject to weather conditions.
