The Pau International Film Festival: Auteur Cinema in the Spotlight

The Pau International Film Festival, created in 2010 by the association Ciné Ma Passion, is an annual event dedicated to auteur and discovery cinema. Organized at the Le Méliès cinema, a venue classified as Art and Essay with three labels – Heritage and Repertoire, Young Audience, Research and Discovery – the festival offers a demanding yet accessible program.

A Thematic and Narrative Approach

The Pau International Film Festival distinguishes itself from traditional film events with its resolutely thematic and narrative approach. Each edition explores a common thread – such as travel for the 7th edition – around which screenings, debates, and meetings are organized. The films presented address social, environmental, and human issues, prioritizing depth of message over spectacular effect.

A Program for All Audiences

Beyond screenings for discerning cinephiles, the festival offers sessions dedicated to families and young audiences, with animated films and works designed to introduce younger viewers to cinema in all its diversity. Le Méliès: A Gem for Independent Cinema

Le Méliès cinema, located at place du Foirail in Pau, is managed by the association Ciné Ma Passion, presided over by Michel Spandre. With its two screens and adjoining café, Le Méliès is a hub for cultural life and cinephilia, hosting screenings, debates, and cultural events throughout the year.
