Open doors of wine estates on the Jurançon wine route
The Open Doors on the Jurançon Wine Route are an unmissable annual event for Béarnais wine tourism. Every second Sunday in December, over 30 independent wine estates open their doors to visitors for free tastings, gourmet markets, and festive concerts. This event, in its 28th edition in 2025, allows you to discover the new vintages of dry and sweet Jurançon directly from the winemakers, in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Some estates also offer meals, original entertainment, and guided cellar tours.
Every second Sunday in December, the Open Doors on the Jurançon Wine Route invite wine lovers and the curious to explore the Jurançon vineyard, nestled on the hillsides south of Pau, facing the Pyrénées mountain range. More than 34 independent wine estates welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a day of discovery, sharing, and conviviality.
The open doors offer the opportunity to:
Many estates complement the oenological experience with local producer markets offering sheep's cheese, charcuterie, honey, foie gras, oysters, and other Béarnais regional specialties. Festive concerts punctuate the day at some estates, creating a joyful and musical atmosphere.
Several estates offer convivial meals by reservation, with prices ranging from 12 to 35 euros per person. These lunches allow you to savor local gastronomy paired with the estate's wines, in the intimate setting of the wine properties.
The Jurançon appellation extends over about forty communes southwest of Pau. This hillside vineyard produces exceptional white wines from the gros manseng and petit manseng grape varieties. Jurançon sec, crisp and aromatic, pairs well with seafood and Béarnais cuisine. Jurançon moelleux, with aromas of candied fruit and spices, is the ideal companion for foie gras and desserts.
Held in December, the Open Doors are an ideal outing to prepare for the end-of-year holidays. Discovering the vineyard in its winter attire, with the snow-capped Pyrénées as a backdrop, offers a striking spectacle.
