Historic car festival on the Pau-Ville urban circuit — no edition in 2026, return hoped for in 2027
There is no edition scheduled in 2026 for this event. This page remains accessible to archive the history of the manifestation and will be updated if a new edition is announced.
The Pau Motors Festival is Pau's major automotive event, heir to the Grand Prix de Pau created in 1933. On the historic urban circuit of Pau-Ville (2.769 km), the festival traditionally brings together modern races, the Historic Grand Prix, a low-carbon mobility forum, exhibitions, concerts, and gastronomy.
Current status: after the 2022 and 2023 editions (the last one held from May 19 to 21, 2023), the festival has been cancelled in 2024, 2025, and 2026 due to financial difficulties of the organizing association (ASAC BB) and the withdrawal of private partners. A return is hoped for in 2027.
ℹ️ 2026 Edition Cancelled — event on hold since 2023. The Pau Motors Festival did not take place in 2024 (lack of private funding due to competition from the Paris Olympics), nor in 2025 (financial difficulties of ASAC BB, the organizing association, placed under safeguard procedure), nor in 2026. The city of Pau and local stakeholders are working towards the event's return, with a stated hope for 2027.
The Pau Motors Festival is Pau's major automotive event, heir to the legendary Grand Prix de Pau created in 1933. The festival takes place on the Pau-Ville circuit, one of France's last urban circuits, a 2.769 km track in the heart of the station district that has been the pride of the Béarnese city for nearly a century.
The Grand Prix de Pau, created in 1933, is one of Europe's oldest urban car races. Legendary drivers like Maurice Trintignant, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Jim Clark have raced on this circuit. During the editions held (the last in 2023), the Pau Motors Festival perpetuated this tradition by bringing together modern races and the Historic Grand Prix, with over 250 drivers from all continents.
The Pau Classic Grand Prix gathered exceptional collector cars: historic Formula 1, GTs, pre-war cars, and other legendary machines. Drivers competed in European championship events on the historic circuit, offering a unique automotive spectacle in an urban setting.
The Pau Motors Festival included a European Low-Carbon Mobility Forum, bringing together public and private stakeholders around the challenges of deploying low-carbon mobilities. The Forum was maintained autonomously in 2024 (May) and 2025 (April 28-29, Pavillon des Arts), supported by the Communauté d'Agglomération Pau Béarn Pyrénées, independently of the suspended car races.
During its editions, the festival offered live concerts, an open-air cinema (drive-in) screening cult automotive films, a gastronomic area (Place Gourmande), and activities for the whole family. The Pau Motors Festival was a true festive event that animated the city for several weeks in May.
According to official communications from the Circuit de Pau and local press (La République des Pyrénées), the return of the Grand Prix and the Pau Motors Festival is conditional on the financial stabilization of the organizer and the return of private partners. A return in 2027 remains the stated horizon. To follow the news, consult the official website pau-motors.com and the Facebook page Grands Prix de Pau.
2026 Edition cancelled. The Pau Motors Festival, heir to the Grand Prix de Pau, will not have an edition in 2026. The festival has been on hiatus since its last edition held in May 2023, following successive cancellations in 2024, 2025, and 2026. A return is hoped for in 2027.
ℹ️ No edition in 2026. The Pau Motors Festival 2026, initially planned for May on the historic Pau-Ville circuit, will not take place. Confirmation was provided by the Circuit de Pau and relayed by the local press (La République des Pyrénées): « No Grand Prix de Pau in 2026, but hope remains for 2027 ».
After a 2024 edition cancelled due to the disengagement of private sponsors (a budget of approximately €2 million, 90% covered by partners, redirected to the Paris Olympics), then a 2025 edition also cancelled due to the financial difficulties of ASAC Basco-Béarnais (the organizing association placed under safeguard procedure at the Pau judicial court in October 2024), the 2026 edition could not be put together in time.
The city of Pau, the Communauté d'Agglomération Pau Béarn Pyrénées, and local stakeholders are working towards a return of the Grand Prix and the Pau Motors Festival for 2027. The return is conditional on the financial stabilization of the organizer and the return of new private partners, with a strengthened environmental focus (alternative fuels).
The European Low-Carbon Mobility Forum, which was part of the festival, has been maintained autonomously by the Communauté d'Agglomération: 3rd edition on May 6 and 7, 2024, at Palais Beaumont, 4th edition on April 28 and 29, 2025, at Pavillon des Arts, Place Royale.
