International street art festival launched in Lyon in 2019, now itinerant (2026 edition in Bourgoin-Jallieu, May 8-10)
Created in 2019 by the TROI3 association and street artist Cart'1, in partnership with the Tintamarre agency and Le Petit Bulletin, the Peinture Fraîche Festival was born from a strong ambition: to offer street art a setting worthy of its overflowing creativity. Since its first edition, the festival has captivated the Lyon public and established itself as one of the most important urban art events in France.
The festival's signature lies in its ability to invest in transitional venues, transforming them into monumental exhibition spaces. The former Fagor-Brandt factories in the 7th arrondissement, Halle Debourg, Collège Serin on the slopes of Croix-Rousse in Lyon, or the Magasins Généraux in Bourgoin-Jallieu: each edition surprises with the choice of a unique site that dialogues with the works created in situ.
The festival brings together internationally renowned artists and emerging talents from the Lyon scene. Over the editions, the public has been able to discover the work of artists such as Snik, Mantra, Clara Wall, Matthieu Pommier, Indey, Da Cruz, Jean Rooble, Bruno Pontiroli, and Brusk. Each edition hosts about fifteen artists who create their works live during the festival, offering visitors a fascinating spectacle of real-time creation.
Since 2022, Peinture Fraîche has broadened its horizons by incorporating music sessions (DJ sets), video projections, a retrogaming area, and augmented reality artworks accessible via smartphone. An urban arts fair also brings together dozens of exhibitors (illustrators, tattoo artists, screen printers, upcycled creators). BMX, parkour, and XXL live painting demonstrations complete a resolutely multidisciplinary program that reflects the spirit of urban culture in all its diversity.
After six editions in Lyon between 2019 and 2024, Peinture Fraîche has relocated to Bourgoin-Jallieu (Isère), 25 minutes by train from Lyon, for its 2025 and 2026 editions. The first Isère edition (May 2025) attracted 9,000 visitors; the 2026 edition, held from May 8 to 10 at the Magasins Généraux, expected more than 10,000. The artistic direction remains under Cart'1, the project's originator.
The 2026 edition of the Peinture Fraîche Festival was held from Friday, May 8 to Sunday, May 10, 2026, in Bourgoin-Jallieu (Isère), at the Magasins Généraux, a stone's throw from the train station. For this second Isère edition, the festival invested a new indoor and outdoor space, with artistic direction by Cart'1, more than 10,000 visitors expected, 18 frescoes (7 of which were created live), 35 urban art fair exhibitors, parkour, retrogaming, DJ sets, and augmented reality artworks. Admission was entirely free.
After a highly acclaimed first Isère edition in May 2025 (9,000 visitors), the Peinture Fraîche Festival returned to Bourgoin-Jallieu for its second edition, from May 8 to 10, 2026, in a new indoor and outdoor space located at the Magasins Généraux, in the immediate vicinity of the train station. The festival was part of the "Street Art Month" organized by the city of Bourgoin-Jallieu, which also included the exhibition « Du tag au street art » at the municipal museum from May 5 to 31, 2026.
As since the festival's creation in 2019, the Lyon-based artist Cart'1 (with over 30 years of career in graffiti) was responsible for the artistic direction of this 2026 edition. The organizers expected more than 10,000 visitors, surpassing the 2025 attendance.
The 2026 edition featured about ten monumental frescoes, to which were added seven frescoes created live before the public's eyes over the three days. In addition, there was a tour of frescoes throughout the city of Bourgoin-Jallieu, created by five invited artists in residence between May and July 2026: Snik (RD1006, May 3 to 10), Matthieu Pommier (rue des Moulins, May 8 to 16), Clara Wall (rue Saint-Honoré, May 11 to 25), Mantra (rue du Languedoc, June 10 to 18), and Indey (rue Buffon, July 6 to 13).
In addition to the frescoes, the 2026 edition offered an urban art fair bringing together 35 exhibitors (tattoo artists, screen printers, illustrators, upcycled creators), a graffiti park accessible to the public, an 11-meter parkour structure, DJ sets, retrogaming, food trucks, as well as workshops led by artists (graffiti, lettering).
The 2026 edition marked the arrival of augmented reality in the program: two projects by Cart'1 and the R.A.tick collective were accessible via QR code, including an arcade game and an interactive tool allowing visitors to modify frescoes to win AR gaming kits. The festival confirmed its desire to integrate new technologies at the heart of urban art, in line with the Lyon "Secret Spot" editions of 2024.
The overall budget for the 2026 edition amounted to €123,000, an increase compared to 2025. Final attendance figures will be communicated by the organization after the festival.
In parallel with the festival from May 8-10, five artists created permanent frescoes in several streets of Bourgoin-Jallieu:
Adventis, AREM, Bilel Allem, Bruno Pontiroli, Cart'1, Clara Wall, Da Cruz, Jean Rooble, Kaldea, Le Môme, Mars Yahl, SHUB110, YNOT, [38PiX], as well as the five invited artists in residence (Snik, Matthieu Pommier, Mantra, Indey).
The 2026 edition of the festival was held from May 8 to 10, 2026 at the Magasins Généraux, near Bourgoin-Jallieu train station (Isère, 38300). Admission was free.
The location of each edition varies. The festival invests in exceptional and transitional venues, in Lyon or the wider metropolitan area. The exact address and dates for each edition are communicated several weeks in advance on the official website and the festival's social media channels.
For the paid Lyon editions (2019-2024), prices generally ranged from 5 to 8 € (reduced price 5 €, free for under 5s, RSA beneficiaries). The 2026 Bourgoin-Jallieu edition was entirely free. When a ticket office is open, it is online only at billetterie-peinturefraichefestival.mapado.com — no on-site sales.
