Playtime
A free season-opening weekend at La Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand
2026
About Playtime
Playtime kicks off the season at La Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand, the city's national stage, by transforming the building into a free, open-access playground for the weekend. Expect short performances, workshops, games, behind-the-scenes tours, and film screenings. The event is held annually to coincide with the European Heritage Days.
Playtime — edition 2026
The 5th edition of Playtime takes place during the European Heritage Days weekend: shows, performances, workshops, games, and unique tours will take over every corner of La Comédie, with free admission and a continuous program throughout both days.
Programme Playtime 2026
On September 19th and 20th, 2026, La Comédie will open its studios, foyer, lobby, and rehearsal rooms for a continuous, free program featuring shows, performances, workshops, games, behind-the-scenes tours, and a dedicated playroom. Screenings will be held in partnership with the Sauve qui peut le court métrage festival. Tickets can be reserved at the box office starting September 1st, 2026.
The detailed, time-slotted program has not yet been released by La Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand; it will be added as soon as it becomes available.
La Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand launched Playtime in 2022 under the direction of Céline Bréant, aiming to turn the theater into a vibrant community space beyond its regular performance schedule. The studio, foyer, lobby, and rehearsal rooms are opened to the public throughout the day, featuring a dedicated games room and screenings organized in partnership with the international short film festival, Sauve qui peut le court métrage.
The building itself is a highlight of the visit: designed by Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, it is celebrated as a key piece of Clermont-Ferrand's architectural heritage. Previous editions have featured on-site dining, and the 2025 program included a parade featuring 150 dancers from the Biennale de la Danse.
