Royat-Chamalières Book Fair

A literary fair at the Casino de Royat

The Royat-Chamalières Book Fair takes place every year on the first weekend of October at the Casino de Royat, 143 avenue de Royat, in Chamalières. The inaugural edition was held on October 5th and 6th, 2013, launched by the towns of Royat and Chamalières and the local tourist office to succeed the Book Festival previously hosted by the Royat town hall. It was sponsored by Patrick Poivre d'Arvor.

Around fifty guest authors

Each year, the event brings together about fifty authors covering a wide range of genres, including novels, non-fiction, essays, children's literature, thrillers, and regional works. Visitors have the opportunity to meet them and get their books signed throughout the two-day event.

Meetings, panel discussions, and workshops

The fair features:

• book signing sessions with all guest authors on Saturday and Sunday;
• readings and author meet-and-greets at the Casino's Grand Théâtre and the Coin du Curiste;
• thematic panel discussions and presentations;
• children's workshops, some of which are held at the Chamalières media library;
• an opening evening at the Casino's Grand Théâtre on Friday night, by registration.

Two partner bookstores

The fair is organized in partnership with the Les Volcans bookstore, located at 80 boulevard François-Mitterrand in Clermont-Ferrand, and the Les Raconteurs d'Histoires bookstore in Chamalières. The program is curated by David Ducreux, and the event is managed by the association « À Lire Des Auteurs », presided over by Catherine Visinet.

Free admission

Admission has been free since the very first edition. The fair and book signings take place in the Casino's Grands Jeux hall, while meetings are held in the Grand Théâtre and the Coin du Curiste.
