The world's largest gathering dedicated to the travel sketchbook, in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand
The Rendez-vous International du Carnet de Voyage was born in May 2000 in Clermont-Ferrand, driven by the journalist, communicator, and traveler Michel Renaud. Organized by the association Il faut aller voir (IFAV), this event has become the largest global gathering dedicated to the travel sketchbook.
Every year in November, the Polydôme in Clermont-Ferrand transforms into a vast exhibition-workshop dedicated to travel sketchbooks. For three days, over 130 guests, both French and international, including nearly 90 travel sketchbook artists, come to exhibit their sketchbooks and meet the public.
All styles are represented: watercolor, drawing, comic strips, photography, collage, mixed media. The artists share their travels through original works that showcase the richness of world cultures.
Friday is traditionally dedicated to school audiences, from primary to high school, with workshops, meetings, and guided tours of the exhibition. A school travel sketchbook competition is also organized annually.
The festival perpetuates the memory of its founder Michel Renaud, who disappeared in the Charlie Hebdo attack on January 7, 2015. His commitment to travel, curiosity, and openness to the world continues to inspire each edition.
The 26th edition of the Rendez-vous International du Carnet de Voyage will take place from Friday, November 13 to Sunday, November 15, 2026, at the Polydôme in Clermont-Ferrand. This edition honors great female adventurers and the importance of seas and oceans. More than 130 French and international guests, including nearly 90 travel journal artists, will gather for three days to exhibit their travel journals and meet the public.
