L'Étrange Festival Clermont-Ferrand: Another Vision of Cinema
L'Étrange Festival Clermont-Ferrand is the Clermont-Ferrand offshoot of the famous Étrange Festival, created in Paris in 1993. Since 2017, the association La Boîte Noire has organized a week of screenings dedicated to atypical and singular cinema every autumn in Clermont-Ferrand. Clermont-Ferrand is the only city in France to offer a selection of films from the Parisian festival.
An Audacious and Eclectic Program
L'Étrange Festival Clermont-Ferrand offers a selection of films that challenge conventions and invite viewers to another vision of the 7th art. The program covers a wide spectrum of cinematic genres and forms:
- Genre Cinema: horror, fantasy, science fiction, thriller
- Animation: auteur animation films from around the world
- Documentaries: offbeat and original perspectives on the world
- Heritage Films: restored classics and rare films
- Previews: films not yet released in France
- Short Films: selection of short films in competition
The Ciné Capitole: A Legendary Cinema
Screenings take place at the Ciné Capitole, located at Place de Jaude, in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand. This historic cinema offers an ideal setting to discover films that go off the beaten track, in a friendly and cinephile atmosphere.
A Festival That Aims to "Stir People Up"
The team at La Boîte Noire is committed to a cinematic project: to offer films that surprise, disturb, and amaze. Selections come from French-speaking, European, Anglo-Saxon, Asian, and South American cinematographies, offering a global panorama of singular cinema.
Short Film Competition
The festival also organizes a short film competition open to filmmakers from around the world. Submissions for the competition are open each year on the festival's official website.
