The world's largest short film festival, an essential event for independent cinema
The Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival is the largest festival in the world dedicated to short films. Founded in 1979 within the Clermont-Ferrand University Film Circle (CCUC), it has established itself as an unmissable event for filmmakers, producers, and cinema enthusiasts from around the globe.
The event was born in 1979 from a student initiative passionate about cinema. Due to its success, the association Sauve qui peut le court métrage was created on August 4, 1981, to structure and develop the event. In 1988, the festival opened up internationally, welcoming films from all over the world and becoming an essential springboard for young directors.
Each edition presents nearly 400 films selected from thousands of submissions from over 100 countries. The festival offers several competitions:
Thematic retrospectives, programs for young audiences, and special screenings complement an incomparably rich program.
The festival also hosts the Short Film Market, the world's most important professional market dedicated to short films. Over 3,000 accredited professionals (distributors, producers, TV broadcasters, festival programmers) gather here each year to discover new talent and negotiate distribution rights.
With over 170,000 admissions each year, the festival is one of the most attended cultural events in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Screenings take place in several venues across Clermont-Ferrand, creating a vibrant cinematic atmosphere throughout the city for ten days.
The 48th edition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival took place from January 30 to February 7, 2026. The Short Film Market was held from February 2 to 5, 2026, bringing together professionals from around the world.
This edition continued the festival's tradition of excellence by presenting a rigorous selection of short films from all corners of the globe, in the international, national, and lab competitions.
