About Quartiers d'Été

Quartiers d'Été was a free, open-air summer festival organized every July at Parc des Gayeulles, in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). Created in 1994 by CRIJ Bretagne with the support of around 200 young volunteers, it combined concerts (world music and urban cultures), open-air cinema, sports activities, and cultural events, primarily aimed at young people from Rennes who were not going on holiday. After about thirty years of existence, the festival was discontinued in 2025.

ℹ️ Festival discontinued. After about thirty years of existence, Quartiers d'Été was discontinued in 2025. Already cancelled in 2024, it could not be renewed due to the withdrawal of financial partners and a lack of structure within the organizing team. The last edition was held on July 16 and 17, 2025, at Parc des Gayeulles.

Quartiers d'Été, a free festival in Rennes

Quartiers d'Été was a summer cultural event held in Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine (Brittany), at Parc des Gayeulles. Created in 1994 by CRIJ Bretagne, it was designed from the outset as an entirely free event, driven by the commitment of Rennes' youth (nearly 200 volunteers each year).

The program, halfway between world music and urban cultures, brought together young talents and renowned artists. The festival offered concerts, open-air cinema screenings, free sports and cultural activities, as well as information spaces for young people who stayed in Rennes during the summer. The 2012 edition attracted more than 21,000 people.

The end of an adventure

Organizing a free festival involved logistical costs that public subsidies were no longer sufficient to cover. After an edition already cancelled in 2024, financial partners ended their support, and the festival could not continue beyond summer 2025. If a new team were to relaunch the event, this page would be updated.

Quartiers d'Été — edition 2026

ℹ️ 2026 edition cancelled — festival discontinued. Quartiers d'Été will not be held in 2026. Already cancelled in 2024, the festival definitively disappeared in 2025 after about thirty editions, as the disengagement of financial partners no longer allowed the organization of this free event.
