About Red Armchair Festival

The Festival du fauteuil rouge is held annually in Tence, Haute-Loire. Organized by the Ciné Tence association in partnership with the consulting firm S'Handistinction, led by Vincent Vacher, the festival uses cinema as a gateway to discuss disability and difference. Films are screened simultaneously at community cinemas in Tence, Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, and Le Mazet-Saint-Voy, accompanied by meetings and debates. The festival is supported by the Communauté de communes du Haut-Lignon and is accredited by Festivals Connexion.

Red Armchair Festival — edition 2026

The Festival du fauteuil rouge returns to Tence, Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, and Le Mazet-Saint-Voy from October 7th to 11th, 2026. As it has every year since 2019, the community-run cinemas of the Haut-Lignon area will simultaneously screen a selection of films focused on disability and diversity, followed by Q&A sessions and discussions with the audience.

Films are screened simultaneously at three community cinemas:

Since 2019

Launched in 2019 by Ciné Tence, each edition of the festival is supported by a patron with a personal connection to disability. For its 7th edition in 2025, the patron was Brigitte Baumié, who is hard of hearing and gave a lecture on Deaf culture. A photography exhibition focusing on the employment of people with disabilities is typically held alongside the screenings.
