The free open-air rock festival on Place de la Brèche in Niort
Every September, the Place de la Brèche — a vast green esplanade in the center of Niort, lined with terraces and overlooking a 530-space underground parking lot — transforms into a rock temple for an evening. Rock en Sèvre, a free open-air festival, has been offering a lineup of seven bands spread across two large facing stages since 2015, creating an original stage dynamic where the audience can move freely from one stage to the other.
Co-organized by two complementary Niort associations — Accès Rock, dedicated to promoting local rock, and Les Pieds Sur Scène, specializing in organizing musical events — the festival benefits from the support of the City of Niort, which provides the Place de la Brèche, one of the largest public spaces in the city center.
The Rock en Sèvre lineup celebrates the diversity of contemporary rock by mixing bands with varied aesthetics: raw and energetic garage rock, acoustic and melodic folk rock, accessible and unifying pop rock, danceable groove rock, and experimental alternative rock. The festival showcases bands from the regional scene while also welcoming groups from all over France.
Rock en Sèvre takes place over a single evening, from 6:30 PM to midnight, in a concentrated and festive format. The two stages alternate concerts, allowing for a smooth flow with no downtime. An associative refreshment stand complements the setup, enhancing the event's convivial atmosphere. The children's playground on the Place de la Brèche allows families to enjoy the festival with peace of mind.
In ten editions, Rock en Sèvre has established itself as an anticipated event for the Niort back-to-school season. The festival has hosted dozens of rock bands from all backgrounds, true to its primary mission: to offer free access to live music and celebrate rock in all its diversity. The event contributes to the cultural animation of Niort's back-to-school period and participates in the dynamism of the local rock scene by providing a showcase for emerging bands from the Deux-Sèvres and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions.
Rock en Sèvre returns for its 11th edition in September 2025 on the Place de la Brèche in Niort. The festival will maintain its proven format: seven bands on two facing stages, from 6:30 PM to midnight, with free admission.
The lineup will be announced in the summer of 2025. The festival will continue to celebrate the diversity of rock by mixing local bands and regional acts.
