Rock les Bains: The Bet of an Indie Festival in Spa Country
In 2015, Camille Leconte, then only 18 years old, knocked on the door of the Plombières-les-Bains town hall with an ambitious project: to create a rock music festival in this historic spa town in the Vosges. The municipality immediately supported the initiative, and Rock les Bains was born on August 22 and 23, 2015. The youngest music festival organizer in France thus inaugurated a summer event that would quickly establish itself in the Lorraine cultural landscape.
The Promenade des Dames as a Musical Setting
The festival takes over the Promenade des Dames, an elegant tree-lined avenue along Avenue de Remiremont, in the heart of the spa town. This exceptional setting, between Napoleonic architecture and Vosges greenery, offers a unique backdrop for the festival's three stages, including an intimate acoustic stage. The proximity between artists and spectators, a characteristic of Rock les Bains, creates a warm atmosphere rarely found at major festivals. During the day, festival-goers can enjoy the Roman baths or mountain hikes before extending the pleasant summer evenings to the rhythm of the concerts.
An International and Eclectic Program
True to its indie and curious spirit, Rock les Bains offers a selection of around eight artists covering eight different musical styles over two days each year. The program mixes rock, pop, reggae, folk, surf rock, electro, and ska, with a preference for discoveries and artists in regional exclusivity. The festival notably set its sights on Australia for its 5th edition in 2019, inviting bands like Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale, Beach Youth, and Bare Jams. Previous editions have hosted artists such as Navii, The Shoes, Wille and the Bandits, The Beautiful Girls, and Holy Two.
A Free, Self-Financed, and Committed Festival
Rock les Bains defines itself as a self-financed, independent, and human-sized festival. Admission is completely free, open to all audiences, from spa visitors to families and rock enthusiasts. The organizing association, chaired by Camille Leconte, finances the event through local partnerships and the sale of merchandise (t-shirts, ecocups). As early as its second edition in 2016, the festival was already attracting over 5,000 festival-goers, confirming the enthusiasm for this unique musical event in the Vosges. Concerts run from 5 PM to 1 AM, offering a smooth transition between the thermal afternoon and the rock'n'roll night.
