The international reference for collectible drawings, at the Palais Brongniart
Founded in 1991, the Salon du Dessin is the international reference for collectible drawings. Every year in March, the Palais Brongniart in Paris hosts around forty French and international galleries presenting over a thousand old, modern, and contemporary drawings. From French and Italian schools to established masters and emerging talents, the Salon du Dessin offers a unique panorama of drawing as an art form through the centuries, in the monumental setting of the former stock exchange.
The Salon du Dessin was founded in 1991 on the initiative of a group of passionate gallery owners, including Hervé Aaron, who served as its president for seventeen years. The first edition was held at the Hôtel George V in Paris with 17 exhibitors. This pioneering event laid the foundation for an exhibition that has become the most important fair in the world dedicated to collectible drawings, contributing decisively to the growth of the drawing market in France and Europe.
In 2004, the Salon du Dessin moved from the Hôtel George V to the Palais Brongniart, place de la Bourse, in the 2nd arrondissement. This former temple of the Paris Stock Exchange, built in the 19th century in a monumental neoclassical style, gives the Salon a historic and inspiring dimension. Under its Corinthian columns and in its majestically proportioned salons, galleries display their graphic treasures in a setting worthy of the excellence of the works presented.
The 33rd edition of the Salon du Dessin was held from March 26 to 31, 2025 at the Palais Brongniart. 39 renowned galleries participated in this edition, with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims as the guest of honor. More than 1,000 old and modern drawings were presented, highlighting French and Italian schools while showcasing established masters and emerging talents. A combined ticket for Salon du Dessin + Drawing Now Paris was offered at 25 euros.
The 34th edition of the Salon du Dessin will be held from March 25 to 30, 2026 at the Palais Brongniart, with the Musée d'Art Moderne André Malraux (MuMa) of Le Havre as the guest of honor. This edition will continue the Salon's tradition of excellence by bringing together the best French and international galleries specializing in collectible drawings.
The Salon du Dessin is the beating heart of Drawing Week, an event that transforms Paris into the world capital of drawing every March. Museums, institutions, galleries, and auction houses collaborate to offer exhibitions, conferences, private tours, and thematic sales dedicated to drawing. Under the historic presidency of Louis de Bayser for eleven years, then co-presidency of Florence Chibret-Plaussu and Hervé Aaron, the Salon continues its mission to promote drawing as a major artistic discipline.
