The largest LGBTQI+ march in France, from Palais-Royal to Place de la Nation
Organized every year in June by Inter-LGBT, the Marche des Fiertés de Paris is the largest LGBTQI+ demonstration in France and one of the most important in Europe. Since the first French march in 1981, the event has brought together more than a million people each year in the streets of Paris, from Palais-Royal to Place de la Nation, to defend the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex people. A militant and festive march, it is the culmination of the Pride Week, which offers dozens of cultural, political, and festive events across the capital.
The first Marche des Fiertés in France was held in 1981 in Paris, in the wake of the homosexual liberation movement born in the 1970s. Since then, the event has continued to grow, from a few hundred participants to over a million people marching through the capital's streets each year. Organized by Inter-LGBT, a federation of over sixty associations, the march is both a militant act for equal rights and a popular celebration of the diversity and visibility of LGBTQI+ communities.
The procession traditionally starts from the Palais-Royal district (metro Palais-Royal — Musée du Louvre) at 1:30 PM and crosses the historic streets of Paris — rue de Rivoli, rue Saint-Antoine, place de la Bastille, rue de Lyon, avenue Daumesnil — to reach the place de la Nation, where a large stage hosts concerts and militant speeches. Since 2023, the march has been held without motorized floats, as part of an environmental responsibility and decarbonization effort.
The 2025 edition of the Marche des Fiertés de Paris was held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, starting at 1:30 PM from Palais-Royal and ending at Place de la Nation. More than a million people participated in the procession, in a both militant and festive atmosphere. The Grand Podium at Nation hosted concerts and speeches from Inter-LGBT member associations.
The Marche des Fiertés de Paris 2026 will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, the culmination of Pride Week, which will take place from June 20 to 27. The start is scheduled for 1:30 PM from Palais-Royal, with a militant and festive route to Place de la Nation. Pride Week, replacing the former Quinzaine des Fiertés in a more concentrated format, will offer political evenings, militant screenings, a music festival, Pride Run, and other events across the capital.
Beyond the march itself, Inter-LGBT organizes awareness, advocacy, and solidarity actions throughout the year in favor of LGBTQI+ rights. Each edition of the march carries a political slogan chosen collectively by the member associations, recalling the ongoing struggles: fight against discrimination, rights of transgender people, assisted reproductive technology (ART), fight against LGBTphobias, international solidarity. The march is also a moment of visibility and celebration, with costumes, rainbow flags, and an atmosphere of shared joy.
