About Sels et Pixels
Sels et Pixels is a photography festival that takes over the historic landmarks of Avallon, in the Yonne department. Organized by the Avallon F5,6 association with the support of the town, it creates a dialogue between historical photographic processes, fine art photography, and contemporary creation through a series of exhibitions, meet-ups, and workshops open to everyone.
Sels et Pixels — edition 2026
For its inaugural edition, Sels et Pixels brings together sixteen professional photographers and students from the Lycée des Chaumes to explore the diversity of the photographic medium, ranging from historical processes and fine art photography to photojournalism and image archaeology. Nine heritage sites across Avallon will host the exhibitions from October 3rd to 11th, 2026, accompanied by artist meet-and-greets, a film screening, and a lecture.
A debut festival rooted in Avallon's heritage
Organized by the Avallon F5,6 association with the support of the city, this first festival offers a photographic trail through several of the town's historic landmarks, including the Grenier à Sel, the church of Saint-Pierre-la-Fabrique, the Maison des Sires de Domecy, the Atelier des 5 Marches, and La Tannerie.
Sixteen professional photographers will exhibit alongside students from the Lycée des Chaumes, showcasing a wide range of approaches to photography, from ancient techniques and experimental art to contemporary creation. The festival complements the exhibitions with a series of cultural events—including book signings, concerts, film screenings, staged readings, and lectures—spread across the ten-day event.

- 5:00 PM — Lecture on the history of photography by Nathalie Borgé, lecturer at the Sorbonne Nouvelle · La Tannerie (free admission)
Exhibitions are open Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and Sunday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, from October 3rd to 11th.
