Summer jazz in the heart of the Serre Chevalier valley
The Serre Chevalier Summer Jazz Festival was born in 2023 in the Serre Chevalier valley, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes. Each summer, this festival offers a program of concerts with eclectic aesthetics, highlighting French musical creation and jazz in all its forms: contemporary jazz, improvised music, classical jazz, and unique collaborations.
One of the festival's unique features is its use of the valley's remarkable heritage sites. Concerts are held in the churches of Le Casset, Saint-Chaffrey, La Salle-les-Alpes, and Le Monêtier-les-Bains, offering unique acoustics and an intimate setting to enjoy the music. The cinema in Le Monêtier-les-Bains also hosts thematic conferences on jazz.
Since its creation, the festival has hosted renowned artists from the French and international jazz scene. The 2025 edition (3rd) notably featured Céline Bonacina (baritone saxophone) and Laurent Dehors (saxophones, clarinets) in a duo, Marylise Florid in a solo guitar recital, the Louis Sclavis Quartet performing the album “India,” and a conference on Thelonious Monk by journalist Lionel Eskenazi.
The Serre Chevalier Summer Jazz Festival is part of the summer cultural dynamic of the Serre Chevalier Vallée Briançon resort, complementing the winter musical offerings of the Altitude Jazz Festival. The festival helps make the valley a major jazz destination in the French Alps, attracting music lovers and the curious in a spectacular natural setting between 1,400 and 2,800 meters above sea level.
4th edition of the Serre Chevalier Summer Jazz Festival, from August 18 to 21, 2026, in the heritage churches and chapels of the Serre Chevalier valley (Hautes-Alpes). Four days of jazz concerts in exceptional venues, with Louis Sclavis as a guiding figure and a program focused on French musical creation.
From August 18 to 21, 2026, the Serre Chevalier Summer Jazz Festival presents its 4th edition in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes. The festival takes over the heritage churches and chapels of the valley's villages — Le Casset, Saint-Chaffrey, La Salle-les-Alpes, and Le Monêtier-les-Bains — to offer concerts in a unique acoustic and setting, close to French musical creation.
Founded in 2023, the festival has welcomed clarinettist and saxophonist Louis Sclavis as its patron since its inception; he is present at each edition, in solo, duo, trio, or quartet. The 2026 program combines solo recitals, trio formations, and a conference, in an intimate and eclectic spirit.
Concerts take place in several locations in the Serre Chevalier valley: churches in Le Casset, Saint-Chaffrey, La Salle-les-Alpes, and Le Monêtier-les-Bains.
Concerts are accessible by reservation. Consult the Serre Chevalier website for prices and online ticketing.
