Feminist and inclusive music festival in Lille
Created in 2024 by students from Sciences Po Lille and the University of Lille, Sorore Festival is a feminist and inclusive musical event that highlights women and gender minorities in the music industry. At Bazaar Saint-So in Lille, the festival offers a 100% female and non-binary program mixing electronic music, techno, pop, hip-hop, and rap. Conferences on equality issues, a creators' market, cultural workshops, and artistic performances complete this committed event that questions the place of women in music.
The Sorore Festival was born from the desire of students from Sciences Po Lille and the University of Lille to address a finding: women and gender minorities remain largely under-represented in the music industry, whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in festival lineups. Sorore (from the Latin "sister") aims to be a festive and committed response to this inequality.
The festival is distinguished by its program exclusively composed of women and non-binary individuals. This strong artistic line allows for the spotlighting of talented artists often invisible in traditional programming. The musical genres represented are varied:
Sorore Festival is not limited to concerts. The program includes:
Emerging from student associative engagement, Sorore Festival embodies a new generation of festivals that combine artistic excellence with societal values. Its location at the Bazaar Saint-So, an alternative cultural venue at Gare Saint-Sauveur, makes it an event in tune with Lille's independent cultural scene.
