The hip-hop culture and dance battles festival in Lille
The Hip Hop Games Festival is the annual meeting point for hip-hop culture in Lille. Organized by Flow, the Euroregional Center for Urban Cultures, this festival has offered for over 14 editions a program combining dance battles, competitions, shows, concerts, and workshops. The highlight of the event, the "Les Jeux de la Danse" weekend, brings together dancers from all over France and Europe for spectacular battles, where teams compete for a prize of 2,000 euros.
For over 14 years, the Hip Hop Games Festival has established itself as one of the major hip-hop culture events in the Hauts-de-France region. Supported by Flow, the Euroregional Center for Urban Cultures in Lille, this festival celebrates hip-hop dance in all its forms: breaking, popping, locking, house dance, krump, and freestyle.
The central weekend of the festival is dedicated to "Les Jeux de la Danse", a three-day event that brings together the best dancers and crews from the hip-hop scene. The battles take place in the Flow and Grand Sud venues in Lille, in front of a passionate audience and internationally renowned judges.
Teams compete in different categories and battle formats, true to the iconic Hip Hop Games format. The winning team takes home a prize of 2,000 euros. The evenings are punctuated by showcases, performances, and moments of sharing around hip-hop culture.
The festival also offers non-competitive events like "Focus On the Groove", an evening that highlights the very essence of hip-hop culture: groove and flow. Dancers, musicians, and DJs come together in a jam session atmosphere, far from the competitive spirit, to celebrate music and dance in their freest form.
True to its mission as a cultural center, Flow offers introductory and advanced hip-hop dance workshops as part of the festival, open to all levels. Conferences and screenings complete the program to explore the history and evolution of urban cultures.
The Hip Hop Games Festival is part of a particularly dynamic Lille hip-hop scene, driven by Flow and the numerous crews and associations in the metropolis. Lille is recognized as one of the major hubs for hip-hop dance in France, and the festival actively contributes to this recognition by attracting internationally renowned dancers and judges.
