About SHM Meaux

The Spectacle Historique de Meaux is a monumental sound and light show that retraces 2,000 years of French and Meaux history in the exceptional setting of the Episcopal City, at the foot of Saint-Étienne Cathedral. Created in 1982 by OCAM, this 75-minute night show mobilizes nearly 500 passionate volunteers and 2,500 costumes to bring the great moments of the city of the Meldes back to life through grandiose historical scenes. Sponsored successively by Jean-Claude Brialy, Stéphane Bern, and Lorànt Deutsch, the Spectacle Historique de Meaux is one of the largest sound and light shows in the Île-de-France region. Due to the renovation of the Episcopal City, the show reinvents itself in 2026 in a new format called 'Meaux remonte le temps', offering immersive thematic weekends in the streets of the city.

44 years of monumental historical show

Since 1982, the Spectacle Historique de Meaux has offered an epic journey through 2,000 years of French and Meaux history every summer. From the city of the Meldes to the Roaring Twenties, from the Wars of Religion to the Revolution, from the Napoleonic epic to the Great War, nine productions have followed one another over more than four decades, each renewing the staging and historical scenes.

The Episcopal City: a monumental setting

The show takes place in the unique setting of the Episcopal City of Meaux, one of the most beautiful episcopal complexes in France. At the foot of Saint-Étienne Cathedral (12th-16th centuries), the facades of the Vieux Chapitre and the Episcopal Palace serve as a natural backdrop for light projections, pyrotechnic effects, and historical scenes performed by volunteers. This exceptional architectural setting, bathed in the light of projectors and orchestral music, creates a striking atmosphere.

500 volunteers and 2,500 costumes

The soul of the Historical Show lies in its 500 passionate volunteers—men, women, and children from Meaux and the surrounding area—who bring historical figures to life each summer. Wearing the 2,500 period costumes from OCAM's wardrobe, they embody Gallic warriors, knights, kings, peasants, revolutionaries, and soldiers with contagious conviction. In 44 years, nearly 5,000 volunteers have participated in the adventure.

A 75-minute night show

The show begins at nightfall (10:45 PM) and lasts 75 minutes. Light effects, video projections, orchestral music, pyrotechnics, and the performance of hundreds of extras combine in a living fresco that parades through the great pages of history. Spectators, seated in the gardens of the Episcopal City, experience a moment of collective emotion in the heart of Meaux's heritage.

2026: 'Meaux remonte le temps', a new format

Due to the renovation work on the Episcopal City (planned for at least five years), the Historical Show reinvents itself in 2026 under a new concept called 'Meaux remonte le temps'. This unprecedented format offers immersive thematic weekends in the streets of Meaux:

  • May 30-31, 2026: The Middle Ages — medieval reenactments and activities
  • June 6-7, 2026: The Grand Siècle — baroque accents, musketeers, sword duels, carriage rides
  • June 14, 2026: The Belle Époque
  • June 27-28, 2026: Multi-era — from Antiquity to World War II
  • July 4, 2026: The Disco Years

The 300 volunteers will once again be mobilized for this historical celebration in a renewed format, with street performances, open-air theatrical scenes, and a costumed immersion open to all.

SHM Meaux — edition 2026

In 2026, the Spectacle Historique de Meaux reinvents itself under the name 'Meaux remonte le temps'. Due to renovation work on the Episcopal City, OCAM offers a new format with five immersive thematic weekends in the streets of Meaux: the Middle Ages (May 30-31), the Grand Siècle (June 6-7), the Belle Époque (June 14), Multi-era (June 27-28), and the Disco Years (July 4). The 300 volunteers will take over the streets for theatrical scenes, costumed activities, and historical reenactments.

'Meaux remonte le temps' — An immersive new format

The Spectacle Historique de Meaux reinvents itself in 2026 under the name 'Meaux remonte le temps'. As renovation work on the Episcopal City makes it impossible to use the usual historical setting, OCAM has chosen to turn this constraint into a great opportunity by creating an unprecedented event concept.

Five weekends, five eras

  • May 30-31: The Middle Ages — medieval reenactments, jousting, artisans, banquet
  • June 6-7: The Grand Siècle — baroque accents, musketeers, sword duels, carriage rides, historical reenactments
  • June 14: The Belle Époque — elegance and effervescence of the early 20th century
  • June 27-28: Multi-era — from Antiquity to World War II, a grand historical fresco
  • July 4: The Disco Years — festive and retro atmosphere

Each weekend will feature activities in the streets of Meaux, open-air theatrical scenes with period sets, and a costumed immersion open to all participants. The 300 volunteers from OCAM will be at the heart of this new adventure.
