International jazz festival in the heart of Thionville
The Thionville Jazz Festival takes place every summer in the heart of Thionville, Moselle. It brings together leading international artists and young regional talents, with evening concerts at the Théâtre de Thionville and numerous free open-air concerts (brass bands, aperitif concerts, after-shows) in the city center. Organized by the Anatole Jazz association, the festival attracts music lovers from across the entire cross-border Greater Region.
The Thionville Jazz Festival has established itself as a must-attend jazz event in the Grand Est region of France. Every summer, the city of Thionville vibrates to the rhythms of jazz for several days of concerts, musical aperitifs, and artistic encounters. The program, both demanding and accessible, brings together big names in international jazz with emerging talents from the regional scene.
Each year, the festival attracts artists of international caliber. Over the editions, it has notably welcomed double bassist Avishai Cohen, saxophonist Stefano Di Battista, singer Youn Sun Nah, pianist Bojan Z, accordionist Vincent Peirani, and guitarist Al Di Meola. The program is supported by the Anatole Jazz association, founded by regional jazz musicians with the ambition of opening jazz to all audiences.
Every day, free open-air concerts are offered on the theater's forecourt, on Place Anne-Grommerch, and in the city center streets. These musical moments, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, allow for an accessible and festive discovery of jazz. They make an excellent prelude to the evening concerts and contribute to the city's lively atmosphere during the festival.
The Thionville Jazz Festival gives significant importance to young talents from the regional jazz scene, who perform before an informed audience. The festival also promotes original collaborative projects, such as opening concerts bringing together choirs, big bands, and cross-border ensembles.
Beyond the concerts, the Thionville Jazz Festival enlivens the entire city. Brass bands and marching bands stroll through the city center streets, creating a festive atmosphere that surprises and enchants passers-by. Cafe and restaurant terraces fill with festival-goers, and jazz music emanates from every corner of the city, creating a unique atmosphere that is the charm of this festival.
Located at the crossroads of France, Luxembourg, and Germany, the Thionville Jazz Festival benefits from a natural cross-border reach. Audiences come from across the Greater Region to attend the concerts, making the festival a unifying cultural event that transcends national borders. This international dimension enriches the festival's atmosphere and reflects Thionville's cosmopolitan identity.
