The Trail des Rives de l'Indre is a sporting event created in 2017 in La Châtre, a charming medieval town in southern Indre immortalized by George Sand. Every third Sunday in September, over 500 runners gather to race along the paths that follow the banks of the Indre, cross the green forests, and wind through the steep streets of the old town. The event is ITRA (International Trail Running Association) referenced, guaranteeing an internationally recognized quality course.
The trail offers three distances suitable for all types of runners. The Trail des Fafiots (24 km) is the main event, with significant elevation gain through woods, meadows, and country paths. The Trail des Beurlots (13 km) offers an intermediate course ideal for experienced trail runners. The Trail des Beurdins (5 km) allows beginners and families to discover trail running in a friendly atmosphere. Children's races (Trail des Bouzous) complete the program for the youngest.
True to its values of respect for nature, the Trail des Rives de l'Indre is committed to an eco-responsible approach. The organization prioritizes zero-waste aid stations, reusable cups, and raising runners' awareness about respecting the natural environments crossed. The courses highlight the landscape heritage of Berry: hollow paths bordered by hedges, riverside sections, shaded undergrowth, and panoramas of the Indre valley.
Beyond the competition, the Trail des Rives de l'Indre aims to be a moment of sharing and conviviality. A welcome village brings together runners and their supporters around local product stands and entertainment. The event benefits from the support of the City of La Châtre, the community of communes of the Pays de George Sand, and numerous passionate volunteers. Each edition contributes to the sporting and tourist influence of this Berry region rich in history and nature.
