The Urban Cultures Festival: Saintes in street mode
The Urban Cultures Festival (FCU) is an annual event dedicated to urban cultures in all their diversity, organized in Saintes (Charente-Maritime) by the Home Street Home association. Launched in June 2022, every summer it brings together amateurs and professionals around performance, sharing, and conviviality, in an inclusive spirit that blends artistic excellence with democratic access to urban practices.
Five disciplines, one spirit
The festival brings together five major families of urban cultures in the same place, over three days:
- Skate — competitions, demonstrations, and free introductions at Skatepark Camilo Alonso. The flagship competition « Cash for Tricks » offers a €1,000 cash prize during Saturday's session.
- BMX — demonstrations on Saturday by experienced riders, free introductions on Sunday.
- Graffiti — live performances by about twenty invited artists throughout the weekend, and free introductions to try spray painting.
- Dance — workshops, battles, and shows on Sunday, highlighting the entire hip-hop dance culture.
- Hip-hop / rap / concerts — concert evenings on Friday and Saturday on the main stage, featuring national headliners, open mic, and local acts.
An event led by a committed local association
The Home Street Home association, based in Saintes, aims to promote and energize urban cultures through the organization of cultural and sports events. The FCU is its flagship event, which in just a few editions has established itself as a rallying point for practitioners from Charente-Maritime and beyond.
The festival is supported by the City of Saintes, the Communauté d'Agglomération de Saintes, the Département de la Charente-Maritime, and the Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
A growing history
The FCU was first held on June 25-26, 2022 at the Saintes Skatepark. Subsequent editions confirmed its local roots: 2nd edition in June 2023, 3rd edition on July 5-6-7, 2024, and the 4th edition is scheduled from June 26 to 28, 2026. Each edition of the festival offers a significant portion of free activities (introductions, Friday's open stage, dances, and graffiti performances) in addition to the paid concerts on Saturday.
