UTMJ: the ultra-trail in the heart of the Jura Mountains

Created in 2020 by Espace Ô, the Ultra Trail des Montagnes du Jura (UTMJ) has quickly become a benchmark event in the world of trail running in France. The finish line is in Métabief, in the Haut-Doubs, at the foot of Mont Morond.

An exceptional cross-border course

The flagship UTMJ race is an ultra-trail of 175 km with 7,000 meters of positive elevation gain, connecting Lancrans (Ain) to Métabief (Doubs). The course crosses:

• Two countries: France and Switzerland
• Two regions: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
• Three departments: Ain, Jura, and Doubs

Runners navigate through the spectacular landscapes of the Jura massif: ridges, spruce forests, high-altitude pastures, lakes, valleys, and panoramas of the Alps and Mont-Blanc.

Six race formats for everyone

The UTMJ offers races adapted to all levels:

• UTMJ: 175 km / 7,000 m D+ — the flagship ultra-trail (solo or relay)
• La Franco-Suisse: 105 km / 4,650 m D+ — a demanding cross-border trail
• La Renarde: 75 km / 2,600 m D+ — a technical and varied trail
• La CMM: 40 km / 1,100 m D+ — a trail accessible to experienced runners
• La Lynx: 20 km — a dynamic mountain race
• La Chamois: 10 km — a family-friendly and festive course

Growing popularity

Since its creation, the UTMJ has experienced growing success with over 3,000 participants in recent editions. The event attracts runners from all over France and abroad, drawn by the beauty of the courses and the quality of the organization.
