The magic of Venice in the heart of the city of enamels
The Venetian Carnival of Longwy, also known as LongoVénitienne, is a magical event that transports the city of enamels into the enchanting world of the Venice Carnival. Created in 2019, this annual event offers two days of parades of sumptuous costumes, concerts, street shows, various entertainment, and a Venetian market. The streets of Longwy are adorned with colors, masks, and precious fabrics for a timeless weekend that attracts thousands of visitors each year.
Since its first edition in 2019, the Venetian Carnival of Longwy — nicknamed the LongoVénitienne — has established itself as one of the most spectacular events in Meurthe-et-Moselle. For a weekend in May, the city of Longwy, famous for its Vauban fortifications and enamels, transforms into a small Lorraine Venice, welcoming dozens of costumed participants from all over France and Europe.
The highlight of the Venetian Carnival is the costume parade, a true open-air fashion show where participants display outfits of exceptional richness and meticulous detail. Crinoline dresses, hand-painted Venetian masks, feathered tricorn hats, velvet capes, and sparkling jewelry create a dazzling visual spectacle in the city streets. The costumed participants pose in front of Longwy's heritage sites, creating strikingly beautiful living tableaux.
Beyond the parades, the Venetian Carnival offers a complete program of entertainment for all audiences. Concerts of baroque music and world music punctuate the two days. Street shows — jugglers, stilt walkers, acrobats, street musicians — take over the city's squares and alleys. A Venetian market offers arts and crafts, masks, jewelry, glassware, and Italian gastronomic specialties. Creative workshops allow children to make their own masks.
The Venetian Carnival of Longwy is supported by the municipality and a team of passionate volunteers. It contributes to the cultural and tourist influence of Longwy, a city labeled UNESCO for its Vauban fortifications. The event attracts an ever-increasing number of visitors each year, from all over the Grand Est region and neighboring countries (Luxembourg, Belgium). It also participates in the network of Venetian carnivals in France, alongside Castres, Remiremont, and Annecy.
The 7th edition of the Venetian Carnival of Longwy will be held on May 2 and 3, 2026. Two days of Venetian magic with costume parades, concerts, street shows, entertainment, and a Venetian market in the city of enamels.
