Vues du Québec: Quebec Cinema Visits Lozère
Since 2010, Florac-Trois-Rivières has hosted a unique film festival in France every spring. Initially dedicated to various themes of the 7th Art under the name 48 Images/Seconde, the festival was restructured in 2015 by the association La Nouvelle Dimension to focus exclusively on Quebecois cinema. Under the name Vues du Québec, festival de cinéma de Florac, it has become an essential event for discovering the best of Quebecois film production in France.
A Cultural Bridge Between Cévennes and Quebec
Each year, the festival presents about fifty films—feature films, short films, documentaries, and animated films—along with about fifteen guests from Quebec: directors, actors, producers, and technicians. Screenings are followed by meetings and discussions with the artists, creating a rare closeness between the Cévennes audience and Quebecois creators.
Hosted by Daniel Racine, who serves as both master of ceremonies and co-programmer, the festival showcases the richness and diversity of Quebecois cinema in the majestic setting of the Cévennes, between the Gorges du Tarn and Mont Lozère.
Retrospectives and Tributes
Each edition highlights a particular aspect of Quebecois cinema. The festival regularly features retrospectives dedicated to major figures in Quebecois cinema and tributes to renowned directors. A region of Quebec is also honored, allowing spectators to discover the cultural and geographical diversity of La Belle Province.
An Engaged Jury
The festival organizes a competition with a jury composed of personalities from Quebecois and French cinema. The awards recognize the best films presented during the week, contributing to the international recognition of Quebecois works.
La Genette Verte: A Cultural Venue
Screenings take place at the cinema La Genette Verte, a multi-purpose cultural space located in the heart of Florac-Trois-Rivières. This venue, managed by the Gorges Causses Cévennes inter-municipal community, offers an intimate and warm setting for film screenings and artist encounters.
A Festival Rooted in its Territory
Vues du Québec contributes to the cultural influence of Lozère and the Cévennes by attracting around 3,000 festival-goers each year. The festival benefits from the support of the Occitanie Region, the Department of Lozère, and numerous Quebecois partners, demonstrating the strong ties forged between Lozère and Quebec around the 7th Art.
