We Will Folk You: Folk in Dunkerque's Winter
Since 2011, the We Will Folk You festival has been warming up Dunkerque's winters with its program of independent folk and pop. This wandering festival, supported by the concert venue Les 4 Écluses and the association Arts Scéniques Rocks, offers a five-day musical journey through Dunkerque's cultural spaces.
A Wandering Festival Through the City
The adjective "wandering" is not an exaggeration: We Will Folk You takes over several locations in Dunkerque, creating a musical trail through the city:
- Les 4 Écluses: Contemporary music venue, the festival's historic home.
- Le Bateau Feu: National stage of Dunkerque.
- La B!B (Dunkerque Library): For acoustic formats and intimate encounters.
- Bars and Unusual Venues: Surprise concerts and acoustic sets in unexpected places.
A Broad Folk Program
We Will Folk You embraces folk in all its contemporary diversity:
- Acoustic Folk: Guitar, banjo, violin, and vocal harmonies.
- Indie-pop: Catchy melodies and polished productions.
- Blues and Americana: American roots and rootsy sounds.
- Contemporary Folk: Artists who reinvent folk traditions with electronic, rock, or experimental influences.
- International Discoveries: European artists and beyond, touring in intimate formats.
More Than a Festival: A State of Mind
We Will Folk You cultivates a spirit of artistic curiosity and closeness. The limited capacity of the venues allows for direct contact between artists and the audience. The festival also organizes talks on the history of folk music and photographic exhibitions related to the musical program.
Growing Reach
From one edition to the next, We Will Folk You has gained notoriety and now extends beyond Dunkerque, with concerts in other towns in the Hauts-de-France region, while maintaining its Dunkerque roots.
