Travel the festival differently
Created in 2016, What A Trip! has established itself as the unmissable event for travel and adventure cinema in France. Each year, the festival invites spectators to travel differently, through documentary films that question our relationship with the world, nature, and other cultures.
A rich and eclectic program
Each edition features around thirty screenings with debates at the Centre Rabelais and the Musée Fabre, with directors and protagonists present. The selected films cover a wide spectrum: decarbonized odysseys, female road trips, underwater explorations, migration stories, extreme kayaking or cycling adventures.
Beyond cinema
The festival extends beyond the confines of dark rooms with a dozen photographic exhibitions scattered throughout the city (Jardin des Plantes, Maison des Relations Internationales, Salle Pétrarque, Gazette Café), six open-air concerts on the esplanade du Peyrou, and a Travel Village bringing together association stands, a travel bookstore, food trucks, and bars.
A commitment to responsible travel
Awarded the "Responsible Commitment" label, What A Trip! places sustainable tourism at the heart of its program. The films highlight travelers who rethink their mobility, favor soft modes of transport, and are committed to preserving the territories they explore.
10 years in 2026: a festival that reinvents itself
To celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2026, the festival is undergoing a major change: it is moving from late September to late June, to take advantage of the summer atmosphere and transform Montpellier into a cultural and musical hub. Three major concert evenings are planned at the Jardin du Peyrou with artists such as David Walters, Guts, Muzanzo, and Sin'Dee.
