Île-de-France Events and Festivals, August 8–9 2026: Fête des Loges Tops the Bill

From the centuries-old Fête des Loges funfair to the fountain show at Versailles, here is our pick of events and festivals in Île-de-France this weekend, August 8–9 2026.

From a centuries-old funfair to Versailles' fountain show, Île-de-France events and festivals for the weekend of August 8–9, 2026 cover a lot of ground. Our pick lands on eleven outings, from Saint-Germain-en-Laye to Yerres. A soft spot goes to the candlelit evenings at Vaux-le-Vicomte: two thousand candles on a Saturday night is not something the region offers twice.

Between town festivities, open-air concerts and the last days of a touring programme, there is enough here to fill a whole weekend. Looking to skip the drive out of town this time?

Fête des Loges in Saint-Germain-en-Laye: France's oldest funfair still runs through the forest

Since 1652, the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (78) has hosted the Fête des Loges, born from a pilgrimage tied to the cult of Saint-Fiacre and now the largest funfair event in Île-de-France. Until August 16, more than 200 rides, attractions and food stalls line Avenue des Loges, free to enter. Three million visitors pass through each edition, between roller coasters, bumper cars and the smell of cotton candy. This weekend, August 8–9, the fair is still running at full pace, before closing its gates on the 16th.

Grandes Eaux Musicales at Versailles: baroque music flows all weekend

As every weekend since April, and through November 1, the gardens of the Château de Versailles (78) stage the Grandes Eaux Musicales on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August. The basins and groves designed by Le Nôtre come alive to the sound of Lully, Rameau, Charpentier and Gluck, a tradition started by Louis XIV in the 1660s. The Latona Fountain, the Apollo Fountain, the Water Avenue: jets rise and fall with the score, in a park suited equally to strolling and to standing still and listening. The Grandes Eaux Musicales remain a Yvelines classic that has been running for decades.

Paris Plages: the Seine and the Villette basin turned into an urban beach

From July 4 through August 30, Paris Plages lines the banks of the Seine, Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville and the Bassin de la Villette with deckchairs, mist sprayers and imported sand. Launched in 2002 by mayor Bertrand Delanoë, the city's free summer operation is still going strong this weekend of August 8–9 (08/08/2026), right in the middle of the holidays. Supervised swimming at the Villette basin, sports activities and pop-up terraces mean an afternoon can be filled without leaving the capital.

Candlelit evenings at Vaux-le-Vicomte, this Saturday August 8

Every Saturday evening from mid-May to late September, the candlelit evenings at Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte (77) swap electric lighting for 2,000 candles across the gardens designed by André Le Nôtre. The tradition, started in 1980, returns this Saturday, August 8: fountains play at dusk, a candlelit dinner is served by reservation, and the night visit reveals a 17th-century setting under unusual light. Completed in 1661, the château directly inspired Versailles. The evenings continue through September 26.

Festival d'Auvers-sur-Oise: classical music fills Val-d'Oise landmarks

Since 1981, and running through September 11, the Festival d'Auvers-sur-Oise (95) fills churches, châteaux and concert halls across Val-d'Oise, under the artistic direction of pianist and musicologist Pascal Escande, who founded it. Baroque, classical, romantic, lyrical and contemporary music follow one another in the department's landmark venues, including the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church in Auvers-sur-Oise. No rides or cotton candy here, just a programme that has grown into one of Europe's most closely followed classical music events.

Classique au Vert: open-air classical concerts continue at Parc Floral

The Parc Floral de Paris, tucked into the Bois de Vincennes (75012), has hosted Classique au Vert since 2002. Programmed by the City of Paris, the classical, chamber and symphonic concerts run on summer weekends, including this one, and remain free. The setting - lawns, century-old trees, a music kiosk - is a change from the usual concert hall. Does Debussy sound better lying in the grass than sitting in a velvet seat? Classique au Vert's audience seems to have made up its mind over two decades.

L'Été du Canal in Saint-Denis: last weekend for cruises and dances on the Ourcq

Since 2007, L'Été du Canal has turned the banks of the Canal de l'Ourcq, the Canal Saint-Denis and the Bassin de la Villette (93) into a summer leisure hub. The programme ends precisely this Sunday, August 9: the last chance to catch the themed boat trips - more than fifty of them since early July -, the community dances, the craft workshops and the water activities. The event pairs Seine-Saint-Denis with waterside leisure, against the grain of how the department is usually pictured.

Les Dimanches au Bord de l'Eau in Nogent-sur-Marne: guinguette time again this Sunday

Every summer Sunday since June, Les Dimanches au Bord de l'Eau bring back, at the Port de Nogent-sur-Marne (94), the spirit of 19th-century riverside dance halls: musette balls, dance lessons, jazz concerts, tastings and games for children on the banks of the Marne. The event returns this Sunday, August 9, continuing a popular tradition that predates paid holidays by a long way. The riverside dance halls stay active through August 30.

Festival des Essentiels in Gennevilliers: last day of a touring, free festival

Launched on August 1, the Festival des Essentiels occupies the neighbourhoods of Gennevilliers (92) through this Sunday, August 9, before continuing its tour to Paris and then Montreuil. Theatre, dance, circus and concerts, free or low-cost, are staged at Place du Marché, with the stated goal of bringing ambitious programming to places it does not usually reach. The last Île-de-France date of this touring format falls exactly this weekend - worth catching before it moves on.

The Caillebotte Estate in Yerres: following the Impressionists through October

The park that inspired painter Gustave Caillebotte in Yerres (91) continues hosting, through October 18, the Caillebotte Festival of Yerres and its summer cultural programme: temporary exhibitions, outdoor painting workshops and guided tours devoted to Impressionism. The listed historic property sits some twenty kilometres from Paris - a half-day outing rather than a trip. Painting outdoors, in the setting that shaped one of the movement's masters, remains the main draw this weekend.

Tremblay l'Estivale: cumbia, salsa and DJ sets in the Parc de Tremblay

In Tremblay-en-France (93), the free evening series Tremblay l'Estivale animates the Parc de Tremblay through August 30. Live cumbia, salsa and world music concerts, DJ sets, dance lessons open to all and circus arts at the Château Bleu follow one another, a departure from the usual small-town summer fair. The city stakes its identity on accessible popular culture, carried for several years now by this summer gathering.

For the rest of the weekend

These eleven picks do not cover the entire Île-de-France calendar for 8–9/08: most neighbourhood festivities and seasonal riverside dances are still running this summer, especially in Val-d'Oise and Essonne. To compare with other regions, head to the full weekend agenda.
