The final night of Jazz in Aiacciu and the glowing evenings of Festi Lumi in Bonifacio: July's first real weekend wakes Corsica up, from Ajaccio to Bastelica.
July's first real weekend, and Corsica finally shifts up a gear. After a low-key June, the island's calendar fills up for good: Ajaccio swings to jazz, Bonifacio lights up after dark, and the mountains bring out their charcuterie. Our favourite for July 4-5, 2026 is Festi Lumi, which turns Bonifacio's medieval upper town into a nocturnal trail of light. But from Ajaccio to Porto-Vecchio, by way of Bastelica, there's plenty to fill a weekend without ever leaving the island. Here is our verified pick of the events that genuinely matter.
Jazz in Aiacciu, Ajaccio (until July 4)
It would be hard to be more established: founded in 1979, Jazz in Aiacciu celebrates its 48th edition in 2026 and remains one of the island's oldest musical gatherings. The festival closes its programme on Saturday July 4 in the imperial city, making this final night the moment not to miss for anyone passing through Ajaccio this weekend. Almost half a century of history has rooted the event in the cultural landscape of southern Corsica, where it lets jazz mingle with the summer atmosphere of the gulf. It's an ideal gateway into the island's music scene, to be enjoyed between two swims, and a fine way to round off an Ajaccio stay on a lively note.
Festi Lumi, Bonifacio (until July 4)
Our highlight of the weekend. Born in 2014, Festi Lumi is Bonifacio's festival of lights, and its 11th edition runs on July 2, 3 and 4, 2026. For three nights, the medieval upper town and the Marina turn into a nocturnal trail of light installations, monumental projection mappings and set designs, from sunset until 1 a.m. Saturday July 4 marks its closing evening: a chance to discover one of Corsica's most beautiful clifftop towns in a radically different light, on foot, along the illuminated lanes. Free, family-friendly and resolutely photogenic, it's the event that tips Bonifacio into summer.
Voyage à travers le Cinéma, Ajaccio (until July 5)
For a change of pace, turn to the big screen with Voyage à travers le Cinéma, held in Ajaccio from July 1 to 5 and therefore covering the whole weekend, Sunday included. Launched in 2018, this event has been part of Ajaccio's cultural landscape for eight years and adds to the city's energy in high summer. On the bill, screenings that invite you to travel through images, in a summer mood made for evening sessions. As Jazz in Aiacciu bows out on Saturday, cinema takes over on Sunday: enough to extend an Ajaccio weekend with no dead time, away from the afternoon heat.
Un Été au Théâtre, Porto-Vecchio
Heading east, to the port of Porto-Vecchio, where the Compagnie I Chjachjaroni has run its open-air theatre season since 1983. Un Été au Théâtre takes over the theatre of the Usine à liège every summer, from June 30 to September 3, with a programme alternating repertoire plays, contemporary creations, shows for young audiences and open stages. More than forty years on from its beginnings, the Corsican troupe has become a familiar summer fixture for residents and holidaymakers alike. It's the ideal cultural outing for a mild evening facing the harbour, to slot into a Porto-Vecchio stay: do check which play is on for this particular weekend before booking.
Fête du Prisuttu de Bastelica (July 3-5)
For those who prefer the pleasures of the table, head into the mountains to the village of Bastelica, cradle of Corsican charcuterie, for the Fête du Prisuttu, from Friday July 3 to Sunday July 5. Launched in 2016, this celebration of the famous Corsican ham — the prisuttu — marks its tenth year and honours a whole high-altitude craft. Tastings, producers, village atmosphere: it's the archetype of the convivial food feast, far from the crowded coast, at 800 metres at the foot of Monte Renoso. A cool, terroir-driven getaway, perfect for understanding where the island's gastronomy really comes from, and for heading home with a boot full of fine produce.
Also worth noting
If you're staying on through the week, keep the Polyphonic Thursdays of Bonifacio in mind: every Thursday evening, from April to October, the Saint-Dominique church in the upper town hosts a concert of Corsican polyphony with renowned island groups. The next one falls on the Thursday after this weekend, ideal for anyone lingering around Bonifacio.
In short
A Corsican weekend that is finally well filled, split between Ajaccio's jazz, Bonifacio's glowing nights, cinema, Porto-Vecchio's theatre and Bastelica's gastronomy. Enough to alternate coast and mountains, culture and food, without ever leaving the island. Want to compare with other destinations?
