Petreto Guitar Festival, Folelli Cherry Fair, storytelling in Ajaccio: eight very real island events for this first weekend of June.
This first weekend of June marks the real start of the Corsican season. The villages are no longer idling: from June 6 to 7, 2026, the island shifts into a higher gear with, for once, a line-up where music doesn't take over everything. A cherry fair, a trail race in the Bavella Needles, storytellers in the streets of Ajaccio and two centuries-old traditional feasts round out a programme of classical guitar and island singing. Our advice: don't look for the single big festival — this weekend's Corsica is best lived as a mosaic, from one end of the two departments to the other. Here are the eight events worth the detour.
A transition weekend, varied and well spread across the island
South Corsica and Upper Corsica share the bill almost equally. Classical music in the south, winegrowers' traditions in the north, gastronomy on the eastern plain, sport in the mountains: exactly the kind of weekend where you pick by mood rather than by headliner.
Petreto Guitar Festival, Petreto-Bicchisano (June 5-9)
It's hard to be more rooted: founded in 1970, the Petreto Guitar Festival celebrates its 57th edition this year, making it one of the deans of island classical guitar. From Friday June 5 to Tuesday June 9, 2026, the village of Petreto-Bicchisano, in the hinterland of South Corsica, hosts concerts, masterclasses and encounters around the instrument. The setting — a mountain village away from the coastal circuits — is part of the charm: you come for the music, not the beach. Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 are the festival's two full days, ideal for combining an evening recital with a walk through the Taravo valley. A gem for music lovers who avoid the crowds.
Les Voix de l'Île, Cargèse (June 3-6)
Last day this Saturday for this polyphony festival in Cargèse, the Greek village of South Corsica. Founded in 2003, Les Voix de l'Île celebrates its 24th edition in 2026 and wraps up its programme on Saturday June 6. Corsican polyphonic singing here often dialogues with other Mediterranean vocal traditions, in venues that draw on Cargèse's two churches, Latin and Greek — a peculiarity few island events can claim. If you're in the Gulf of Sagone this Saturday, this is the evening to aim for before it closes. Small format, warm atmosphere, a crowd of regulars mixed with passing newcomers.
Ajaccio Storytelling Festival (June 6-9)
A complete change of register with this event dedicated to storytelling and oral tradition, whose history dates back to 1955 — its 72nd edition in 2026. The Ajaccio Storytelling Festival starts precisely on Saturday June 6 and runs through Tuesday June 9. The spoken word reigns: professional storytellers, evening gatherings, sessions for young audiences and storytelling walks take over the imperial city. It's the ideal option for families, but not only — adult storytelling holds a real place in the line-up. In a region where orality, song and collective memory carry so much weight, this festival touches something deeply Corsican. Accessible and free for much of the street programming.
Les Musicales de Bastia (June 4-7)
Heading north for the oldest island festival in Corsica. Founded in 1987, first as a biennial then annual from 1989, Les Musicales de Bastia ends on Sunday June 7, 2026 in the intimate setting of L'Alb'Oru. The editorial line is appealing: indie pop, electronica, jazz and new French and Corsican voices, far from the expected folklore. It's probably the most adventurous rendezvous of the weekend, betting on discovery rather than big names. The human-sized venue guarantees a closeness with the artists that the large summer stages can't offer. Catch it before the Sunday close.
Folelli Cherry Fair, Penta-di-Casinca (June 7-8)
Gastronomy takes the stage on Sunday with the 46th Folelli Cherry Fair, in Penta-di-Casinca, on the eastern plain of Upper Corsica. Founded in 1981, it celebrates the Casinca cherry, the emblematic fruit of this area, through a producers' market, tastings, craft stalls and the village-fair atmosphere everyone loves. Sunday June 7 is the big opening day. It's the archetype of a Corsican food festival: you taste the homemade jam, you meet the local growers, and you leave with your arms full. Ideal for a family morning before the heat, a stone's throw from the sea.
San Vincente, Calvi (June 7-9)
Off to the Balagne for this traditional winegrowers' feast, whose roots reach back to 1915 — its 112th edition this year. San Vincente opens on Sunday June 7 in Calvi, blending a patron-saint celebration, a spotlight on local wine and village festivities. It's a chance to discover a Calvi less touristy than its postcard citadel, on the side of traditions and island conviviality. Balagne wines, whose quality has been rising in recent years, find a welcome showcase here. A rendezvous that smells of the land, to savour at leisure on Sunday.
Sant'Andria de Pianottoli, Pianottoli-Caldarello (June 7-9)
Even older: the Sant'Andria de Pianottoli feast dates back to 1884 and marks its 143rd edition. At the southern tip of South Corsica, the village of Pianottoli-Caldarello revives its patron-saint feast from Sunday June 7. Procession, mass, shared meals and festivities pace these days when the village community comes together. It's the Corsica of living traditions, the kind passed down year after year far from the spotlight. For the visitor, it's a rare window onto the life of a southern village before the summer influx. The Saturday-morning market, with producers and artisans, nicely rounds out the trip if you arrive the day before.
Bavella Needles Trail, Zonza (June 7-11)
For the legs rather than the ears: the Bavella Needles Trail starts on Sunday June 7 in Zonza, in the heart of one of the island's most spectacular massifs. The event, whose history goes back to 1971, offers several trail-running formats in the wild, at the foot of the famous granite needles of Bavella. The scenery — laricio pine forests, panoramic passes, trails near the GR20 — is worth the trip on its own, whether you run or come to cheer. It's the sporting, mountain counterpoint to this musical and festive weekend, and an excellent excuse to discover the Alta Rocca, one of Corsica's most authentic regions.
If you stay longer: the Polyphonic Thursdays of Bonifacio
No concert this exact weekend, but worth flagging for anyone staying on the island: the Polyphonic Thursdays of Bonifacio programme a concert every Thursday evening from April to October in the Saint-Dominique church of the Haute-Ville. The next one falls on Thursday June 11. Around thirty evenings per season, renowned island polyphonic groups (Una Fiara Nova, L'Alba, A Filetta…) and the acoustics of a 13th-century Dominican church: it's one of the best entry points into Corsican polyphony in a traditional setting, away from the crowded summer festivals.
Wrap-up
Here is a rare weekend in Corsica for its variety: classical guitar in Petreto, polyphony in Cargèse, storytelling in Ajaccio, musical discovery in Bastia, cherries in Folelli, wine and tradition in Calvi and Pianottoli, mountain trail running in Zonza. Eight very real events, spread across both departments, with something for every mood. Staying longer or looking for other ideas?
