Brassens and Company: French chanson celebrated in Chailland
Since 2012, every Pentecost Sunday, the charming historic village of Chailland in Mayenne vibrates to the sound of French chanson. The festival A Sunday with Brassens and Company pays tribute to the poet-singer Georges Brassens and to the great voices of French chanson, in a friendly and popular atmosphere.
A tribute to Brassens and the great French voices
The heart of the festival beats to the rhythm of the songs of Georges Brassens, a poet and singer-songwriter born in Sète, whose work continues to fascinate lovers of the French language. But the festival is not limited to Brassens: about twenty groups also perform the repertoire of Charles Aznavour, Serge Gainsbourg, Barbara, Renaud, Claude Nougaro, Alain Souchon, and Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine, offering a lively and joyful panorama of French chanson.
A village celebrating
From 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the streets, squares, and courtyards of the village of Chailland are transformed into ephemeral stages. The groups, from passionate amateurs to seasoned musicians, perform one after another in a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The public wanders freely between the different concert venues, enjoying the charm of the village and the conviviality of the event.
Growing popular success
After a three-year interruption due to the health crisis, the festival resumed in 2023 for its 9th edition and has continued to grow. The 10th edition in 2024 brought together 22 groups and confirmed the popular success of this unique event. The festival attracts visitors from well beyond the Mayenne region, seduced by this unique gathering dedicated to quality French chanson.
A free and friendly event
True to the spirit of sharing and accessibility, the festival is entirely free. Food and drink stalls allow festival-goers to fully enjoy the afternoon in a village festival atmosphere.
