The international film festival that has been celebrating Amiens since 1980
The Amiens International Film Festival (FIFAM) is a film festival created in 1980 that takes place annually in November in Amiens. For nine days, it offers screenings of films from around the world, with a particular focus on cinemas from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the diaspora. Competitions, previews, retrospectives, and meetings with filmmakers make FIFAM a major event for auteur cinema in France.
The Amiens International Film Festival (FIFAM) was founded in 1980 by Jean-Pierre Garcia, with the ambition of creating a place in Amiens for meeting and discovering films from all over the world. From its early editions, the festival distinguished itself by its openness to the cinemas of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the diasporas, regions then underrepresented in European festivals. This uniqueness is the source of FIFAM's richness and identity today, having become over forty years one of the most important film festivals in northern France.
Every November, FIFAM unfolds its program over nine days, offering the people of Amiens and film lovers from all over France an immersion into contemporary world cinema. The program is structured around several sections: the official competition, previews, thematic retrospectives, focuses on a country or region of the world, and special sections dedicated to documentaries, short films, and animation. The 2025 edition presented no less than 131 films and welcomed 54 guests.
FIFAM is recognized for its commitment to the diversity of perspectives and narratives. The festival screens films from cinematographies often unknown to the general public, offering a window into diverse cultures, societies, and imaginations. Meetings with filmmakers, debates, and masterclasses allow the audience to deepen their understanding of the works and to engage directly with the creators. This educational and humanistic dimension makes FIFAM more than just a festival: it is a space for reflection on the world through the lens of cinema.
Supported by the association Amiens Ciné, FIFAM is deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of Amiens. Screenings take place in the city's cinemas, and the festival collaborates with schools, universities, and socio-cultural organizations to broaden access to cinema. FIFAM contributes to Amiens' cultural influence on a national and international scale, attracting film professionals, journalists, and cinephiles from around the world. Each edition features eight previews and pre-releases, making Amiens a leading film destination.
The 46th edition of FIFAM will take place from November 13 to 21, 2026, in Amiens. Nine days of international cinema with competitions, previews, retrospectives, and meetings with filmmakers.
