The Angers comic strip festival at the Centre de Congrès
Angers BD is the annual comic strip festival of Angers, organized every year in December at the Centre de Congrès Jean Monnier. Since 1999, this event has brought together about forty authors of comic strips, comics, manga, and graphic novels for two days of signings, meetings, exhibitions, and conferences. With its Première Bulle prize rewarding the best first work of the year, the festival has established itself as a major event for the ninth art in the Pays de la Loire region, combining the discovery of new talents with reunions with the great names of comic strips.
Created in 1999 by the Angers-BD association, the Angers BD festival has become over the years an unmissable event for comic strip lovers in Maine-et-Loire. Every first weekend of December, the Centre de Congrès Jean Monnier in Angers hosts about forty authors who come to meet the public for signings, meetings, and passionate exchanges around the 9th art.
The festival covers all genres of comic strips: Franco-Belgian comic strips, comics, manga, graphic novels, and children's books. International authors rub shoulders with local Angers talents, offering visitors a rich and diverse panorama of contemporary creation. Publishers and specialized booksellers also offer their catalogs on site.
Each edition features several exhibitions highlighting the work of invited authors, award winners, or young talents. The Première Bulle prize, awarded each year during the festival, rewards the best first comic strip work published during the year, helping to discover new authors. Thematic conferences, round tables, and workshops complete the program.
Located in the city center of Angers, the Centre de Congrès Jean Monnier is easily accessible by tram (Centre des Congrès stop). The festival offers youth activities, readings with live illustrations, and fun workshops to introduce younger audiences to the pleasure of comic strips. The Angers-BD association also works throughout the year with schools, colleges, and libraries in Maine-et-Loire to promote the ninth art.
The 27th edition of the Angers BD festival is scheduled for December 5 and 6, 2026, at the Angers Centre de Congrès. The festival will bring together about forty authors for signings, meetings, exhibitions, and the awarding of the 2026 Première Bulle prize.
