The Saint-Fiacre Festival in Appoigny: Tradition and Conviviality

Every late August, the town of Appoigny (89380), a few kilometers north of Auxerre, celebrates its patronal festival dedicated to Saint-Fiacre. Organized by the Appoigny Festival Committee, this popular festival brings together the inhabitants of the village and neighboring towns for a weekend of friendly and free festivities at the cultural center.

A Festive Weekend Full of Activities

The Saint-Fiacre festival spans two days with a complementary program:

Saturday: Musical Evening and Fireworks

Saturday evening is the highlight of the festival with a program of concerts followed by the grand fireworks display:

• From 7 PM: Live concerts with quality local and regional artists
• Varied musical atmosphere: pop, rock, French variety, and soul depending on the editions
• At 10 PM: Grand fireworks display, the culmination of the evening that lights up the Appoigny sky
• Food trucks and refreshment stand by the festival committee to eat throughout the evening

Sunday: Craft Market and Family Activities

Sunday is dedicated to family and friendly gatherings:

• Craft market with about forty exhibitors sharing their creations and know-how
• Giant wooden games for children in the afternoon
• Family activities for all ages
• Refreshment stand and food on site

The Funfair

A funfair is set up on both days at the cultural center with rides and attractions for young and old. This traditional gathering point allows everyone to enjoy the festivities in a joyful and relaxed atmosphere.

The Appoigny Festival Committee

The Saint-Fiacre festival is organized by the Appoigny Festival Committee, a local association whose mission is to contribute to the influence and dynamism of the town. Throughout the year, the committee organizes other events, notably the Icaunaise Beer Festival (FBI) in the spring, but Saint-Fiacre remains the flagship event of the season. Membership in the committee is open to all residents (€10/year).

Saint-Fiacre, Patron Saint of Gardeners

Saint-Fiacre, an Irish monk from the 7th century who became one of the patron saints of Brie and Île-de-France, is also the traditional patron saint of gardeners and market gardeners. His feast day, celebrated on August 30th according to the liturgical calendar, is an opportunity for Appoigny to perpetuate a warm and friendly local tradition.
