The ultra-trail of the Ardennes massif, a unique adventure between Meuse and Semoy
Created in 2009 by runners from the Athletic Bélair Club of Charleville-Mézières, the Ardennes Méga Trail has become one of the flagship trails of the Grand Est region. Every year in June, over 3,000 participants set off from Les Hautes-Rivières to tackle the forest trails of the French Ardennes massif, between the Meuse and Semoy valleys. The event offers several races from 15 to 100 miles, with the highlight being the AMT, a 90 km ultra-trail with 4,000 m of positive elevation gain on forest paths and Ardennes ridges.
The Ardennes Méga Trail was born in 2009 from the initiative of runners from the Athletic Bélair Club of Charleville-Mézières, with the ambition of creating a trail of over 80 km and more than 4,000 m of positive elevation gain in the heart of the French Ardennes massif. Since its creation, the event has continued to grow to become one of the most renowned trails in the Grand Est and a national benchmark in the world of trail running. The Ardennes Méga Trail is referenced in the UTMB Index, attesting to its level of demand and quality.
The Ardennes Méga Trail offers a range of races suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced ultra-trailers. The Crêtes de Semoy (CDS) at 15 km with 500 m of elevation gain is ideal for novices. The Saut Thibault (LST) at 35 km and 1,300 m of elevation gain offers a good intermediate challenge. The Roc La Tour (RLT) at 55 km and 2,300 m of elevation gain is a real challenge. The main event, the AMT at 90 km and 4,000 m of elevation gain, is a demanding ultra-trail run almost entirely on forest trails. For 2026, a new event, the Supr'AMT at 100 miles and 7,000 m of elevation gain, completes the offering for the most seasoned runners.
The Ardennes Méga Trail races take place in an exceptional natural setting, in the heart of the Ardennes forest between the valleys of the Meuse and the Semoy. The trails wind through deep forests, run along steep rivers, climb ridges offering spectacular panoramas, and cross picturesque villages. The start is from Les Hautes-Rivières, a village nestled at the bottom of the Semoy valley, a few kilometers from the Belgian border. This wild and preserved territory offers an ideal playground for nature running.
The Ardennes Méga Trail brings together over 3,000 runners of all ages and levels each year, from all over France and abroad. The event is supported by hundreds of volunteers from the Athletic Bélair Club and the municipalities crossed. The organization makes it a point of honor to ensure the safety and well-being of the runners with well-distributed aid stations, a medical team, dedicated shuttles, and coordination with the Red Cross and the FFA. The start village in Les Hautes-Rivières is a place of conviviality where runners, companions, and volunteers share the passion for trail running.
