Au Son de l'Yon, the festival that makes the riverbanks vibrate
Au Son de l'Yon is an open-air music festival that has established itself as one of the essential summer events in the La Roche-sur-Yon agglomeration. Created in 2019, it comes alive every summer in the enchanting setting of the Moulin de Rambourg, in Nesmy, in the heart of the Yon valley. Between the old watermill and the shaded banks of the river, the site offers an exceptional natural setting for open-air music evenings.
A unique concept: six free concerts in three evenings
The festival's principle is simple and generous: three consecutive Thursday evenings in August, two concerts per evening, all with free access. This formula allows everyone—families, passing tourists, residents of the agglomeration—to enjoy quality musical programming without ticketing constraints. Food and drink service complements the offer to transform each evening into a true moment of sharing and conviviality by the water.
An eclectic and traveling program
The richness of Au Son de l'Yon lies in the diversity of its programming. The festival is not confined to any musical genre: from one evening to the next, spectators can travel from rock to funk, from afrobeat to world music, from French chanson to reggae, including ska, blues, and tropical sounds. This musical openness echoes the festival's philosophy: to bring all audiences together around a moment of shared discovery and pleasure.
The 2025 edition illustrated this diversity with artists such as Butter'n Jam and Jim Murple Memorial (vintage ska and soul), Ireke (Afro-Latin groove and tropical electro), and Sylvain Duthu (intimate French chanson), Dead Leaf (powerful blues rock), and Vaudou Game (captivating Togolese afro-funk).
The Moulin de Rambourg, a remarkable natural setting
The Moulin de Rambourg site is an old 19th-century watermill, nestled in a green valley crossed by the Yon river. This milling heritage, which has retained its original equipment, provides a unique backdrop for an open-air festival. The shaded lawns, the proximity of the river, and the mild August evenings create a soothing atmosphere that contrasts with the energy of the concerts. The site is easily accessible from La Roche-sur-Yon, just a few kilometers from the city center.
A festival driven by volunteers
Au Son de l'Yon is above all a human adventure. Driven by the Comité des fêtes de Nesmy and supported by the Office de Tourisme de La Roche-sur-Yon Agglomération and the municipality of Nesmy, the festival relies on the commitment of about thirty passionate volunteers who ensure logistics, reception, catering, and site setup. This associative and community anchoring gives the festival a warm and authentic soul, reflecting the Vendée region that hosts it.
