The Banff Mountain Film Festival: adventure on the big screen in Besançon

Born in 1976 in the Canadian Rockies, the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival has become one of the most prestigious film events dedicated to mountains and adventure in the world. Each year, a rigorous selection of short and medium-length films travels the globe as part of a world tour present in over 40 countries.

The French tour and the Besançon stopover

Since 2015, the French tour of the Banff Mountain Film Festival has allowed outdoor sports, mountaineering, climbing, skiing, kayaking, and travel enthusiasts to discover the award-winning films from the Canadian festival. Besançon is one of the stopover cities on this tour, alongside major French metropolises.

In 2025, the tour celebrated its 10th anniversary in France with a particularly exhilarating program. Screenings in Besançon were held on March 28, 2025, at the Mégarama Beaux-Arts cinema, an intimate venue in the city center, with doors opening between 7 PM and 7:30 PM for a 8 PM screening.

A program that takes you traveling

The selection of films offered at each stop transports spectators to the four corners of the globe. From the snowy peaks of western Canada to the vertical walls of the Dolomites, from the wild rivers of Alaska to the trails of the Australian Sunshine Coast, each film is an invitation to escape and wonder.

A meeting for outdoor enthusiasts

The Banff Mountain Film Festival in Besançon attracts an audience of mountain, outdoor sports, and documentary film enthusiasts. The event is a moment of sharing and inspiration for the outdoor community of Franche-Comté, a region itself rich in natural spaces and outdoor sports activities.

Award-winning and subtitled films

All the films shown are subtitled in French and accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing people. The program is renewed each year and generally includes between 8 and 12 films, for a total screening time of approximately 2.5 hours.
