Festival of characterful song, in the Gard Cévennes
The Barjac m'en chante festival is an unmissable event for characterful French-language song, organised every summer in the village of Barjac (Gard), at the gateway to the Cévennes. Born in 1992, it champions demanding and popular lyrical song, far from commercial logic, and gathers thousands of spectators every year.
For six days, around thirty concerts are spread across several village stages (Espace Jean Ferrat, Chapiteau du Pradet, Salle Trintignant, Salle Anne Sylvestre, Jardin des Papotages…), featuring headliners, developing artists, open stages, shows for young audiences, exhibitions, and meetings.
Organised by the Chant Libre association, Barjac m'en chante has affirmed its attachment to "chanson de caractère" for over thirty years: a song of words, free and diverse, which permeates many broadcast venues in the French-speaking territory.
The festival unfolds over six days and in several locations in the village of Barjac. The programme mixes evening concerts, afternoon events, professionally supervised open stages, an ephemeral choir open to all, a daily radio show ("Les Ondes Enchantées"), dedicated shows for young audiences, and participatory highlights such as the great Song Quiz. The last day is centralised at the big top site with a surprise concert, banquet, and festive closing concert.
The festival strengthens its eco-citizen actions: plastic reduction, self-service water access, encouragement of carpooling, and limitation of local travel.
The 31st edition of Barjac m'en chante will take place from Saturday, July 25 to Thursday, July 30, 2026 in Barjac (Gard). Six days of celebration, over 30 concerts of characteristic French song, a 'very feminine' edition highlighting emerging and regional artists.
After a successful 30th anniversary edition, the Chant Libre association is bringing back the popular 2025 format: a sixth day entirely centralized on the marquee site (surprise concert, banquet, festive closing concert). On the program: opening with original and unexpected shows, the Anne Sylvestre hall dedicated to young audiences, the return of the ephemeral choir open to all, four professionally supervised open stages, a support stage with La Manufacture Chanson, and the revamp of the daily radio show 'Les Ondes Enchantées' (6 live public broadcasts).
As a preview (outside the festival), two concerts in spring: La Reine des Patates – Thomas Pitiot (Friday, May 22, 2026) and Magyd Cherfi (Saturday, May 23, 2026), at the Salle des Fêtes de Barjac.
The festival takes place in the village of Barjac (30430), in the Gard department, across several sites: Espace Jean Ferrat, Chapiteau du Pradet, Salle Trintignant, Salle Anne Sylvestre, Salles du Château, Jardin des Papotages.
