Bédéciné: Forty Years of Passion for Comics in Illzach
Since its first edition in 1986, Bédéciné has established itself as the major comic strip event in the Grand Est region of France. Supported by the Espace 110 — Centre Culturel d'Illzach, this international festival attracts several thousand visitors each year to the heart of the Mulhouse urban area. Its strategic location at the crossroads of the Three Borders allows it to extend its influence far beyond Alsace, attracting audiences from Germany, Switzerland, and all over France.
A Rich Program Centered Around the Ninth Art
For two days in November, Espace 110 transforms into a true temple of comics. More than a hundred authors and illustrators take over the venue for signing sessions, allowing readers to meet their favorite creators and leave with personalized albums. Themed exhibitions highlight the work of renowned artists or young talents, offering a rich panorama of contemporary graphic creation: Franco-Belgian comics, American comics, manga, graphic novels, and children's albums.
Shows, Workshops, and Activities for All Ages
Bédéciné is not limited to stands and signings. The festival offers a full program of live performances — musical theater, dance, puppetry — accessible for free and renewed several times a day. Creative workshops led by professionals welcome children from a young age: introduction to drawing, manga techniques, songwriting, and many other fun and educational activities. Debates, conferences, and publisher presentations complete this eclectic program.
A Festival Presided Over Each Year by a Renowned Artist
Each edition of Bédéciné is presided over by one or more emblematic artists from the world of comics. This tradition gives the festival a renewed identity year after year and helps to showcase the diversity of graphic styles and universes. In 2025, the 40th anniversary edition was co-chaired by Philippe Matter, creator of Mini-Loup, and Miss Prickly (Isabelle Mandrou). The 2026 edition will be presided over by the Alsatian artist Claude Guth.
Strong Territorial Roots in the Heart of Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération
Located in Illzach, a commune within the Mulhouse urban area, Bédéciné benefits from the support of Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération and is fully integrated into the region's cultural dynamic. Espace 110, a recognized performance venue and cultural center, offers a modern and functional setting, perfectly suited to hosting an event of this scale. Each year, the festival contributes to the cultural influence of the Haut-Rhin department and the vitality of the local associative and artistic community.
