Edition 2026

Les Automnales — edition 2026

The Vallée de Munster en Transition association has included the Automnales in its 2026 calendar, though as of mid-August, no specific dates or program have been released. The previous two editions spanned five weeks, from October to November, featuring repair cafés, workshops, film screenings with discussions, lectures, and open house events across several towns in the valley.

2026 edition announced, but dates remain unconfirmed

The 2026 Repair Café schedule published by Vallée de Munster en Transition lists four confirmed dates: Stosswihr on February 7th, Metzeral on April 18th, Gunsbach on May 30th, and Munster on September 5th. A fifth entry, titled "Automnales / Journée Nationale de la Réparation," is noted as "date to be determined based on these two events." While the association intends to hold the Automnales this year, they had not publicly set the dates as of mid-August 2026.

Neither the association's website, their monthly newsletter, their Telegram channel, nor their Facebook page have announced the 2026 edition, and no ticketing is currently available. The dates displayed on this page are not based on any official organizer publication: it is highly recommended to verify them with VMT before making travel plans.

What to expect based on previous editions

In 2024, the Automnales succeeded the Transition Forum, which VMT previously organized every autumn over three days. The first edition ran from October 17th to November 23rd, 2024, and the second from October 18th to November 21st, 2025. Events are spread across Munster (Salle de la Laub, the village hall, Espace Saint-Grégoire cinema, La Goutte d'eau grocery store, and the market square) as well as other towns in the valley: Wihr-au-Val, Soultzbach-les-Bains, Metzeral, and Eschbach-au-Val.

The 2025 edition kicked off with a Repair Café at the La Maison Luquet tool workshop in Eschbach-au-Val. Highlights included a meeting with Fiona Mille, president of Mountain Wilderness France, to discuss her book "Réinventons la montagne"; a screening and discussion of the documentary "Le vivant qui se défend" by Vincent Verzat; a screening of "Transmettre" by Jérôme Zindy for the Alimenterre festival; a lecture by Pierre-Antoine Landel, a researcher at the Université Grenoble Alpes, on cooperation and citizen participation; open house events at La Goutte d'eau grocery store; nature workshops for children in Metzeral; a textile recycling workshop; and the launch of an edible forest project.

A month dedicated to ecological and social transition

Les Automnales were launched in 2024 by the Vallée de Munster en Transition (VMT) association. They follow in the footsteps of the Transition Forum, which VMT previously organized every autumn over three days. The event now spans five weeks, from October to November, with activities spread across several towns in the valley.

Screenings, workshops, and lectures

The program features a variety of formats:

  • Screenings and debates: A documentary followed by a discussion with guests, such as "Le vivant qui se défend" by Vincent Verzat or "Transmettre" by Jérôme Zindy, screened as part of the Alimenterre festival.
  • Practical workshops: Textile recycling and sewing with the De Fil en Aiguille group, Norwegian pot cooking, lacto-fermentation, and nature workshops in the forest for children aged 6 to 12.
  • Repair Cafés: Volunteer repairers fix toasters, lamps, hair dryers, clothing, bicycles, toys, and tableware. Please note that phones, tablets, and digital cameras are not accepted.
  • Lectures and meetings: Fiona Mille, president of Mountain Wilderness France, on the future of the mountains; Pierre-Antoine Landel, a researcher at the Université Grenoble Alpes, on cooperation and citizen participation; and a lecture on climate change in the Vosges.
  • Open houses: The La Goutte d'eau participatory grocery store opens its doors for a morning.

Vallée de Munster en Transition

Throughout the rest of the year, VMT hosts a mobile Repair Café that rotates between villages (Stosswihr, Metzeral, Gunsbach, and Munster in 2026), a free-cycle zone, a cycling collective, weekly "Point de chute" meetings on Friday evenings at the Parc Hartmann kiosk, and a film-debate group. The association also manages La Goutte d'eau, an organic and social participatory grocery store located at 4 rue Albert-Schweitzer in Munster.

An event open to contributions

The association's working groups, as well as any interested individual or organization—member or not—are welcome to propose an event for Les Automnales. Events are pay-what-you-want, except for a few activities led by professional facilitators, for which a solidarity rate of €1 is available upon request. The association self-funds the majority of the event, with a contribution from the City of Munster.

The Munster Valley

The valley is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Natural Park, which works on managing mountain pastures, mountain agriculture, short supply chains, and environmental education. The opening of the 2024 edition, a screening-debate for the Alimenterre festival, was a collaboration between the Park, Ecooparc, and the Maraîchage sur Sol Vivant network.
